Passport valid for 5 months is it OK?

Hi as the title says---a pal of mine wants to come to Spain for 14 days and his passport is only valid for 5 months. He does not want to renew his passport. Will he be OK to travel? Thanks Stuart.

My understanding is that many operators will not let you fly unless your passport has more than 6 months left on it.

British passport? If yes then yes. There is no minimum passport validity requirement for Spain as long as the passport is valid for the duration of the visit. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-ad...y-requirements

That depends where you are flying to. Within the EU it isn't a problem.

I have just remembered why it was in my head. It was a holiday in Italy in 2002 or 2003 and we were told that our passports needed to have more than 6 months to run.

I travelled from the UK to Spain in February with only 4 months on my passport.

I traveled to Barcelona and back last week and my passport is up on 2nd June!
This was with Easyjet - no mention by anyone.
Need to get my app for new one away before next trip.

Travel within the EU and to the US under the VWP does not require six months validity although this is the case for many other countries. Always worth checking the FCO Travel Advice page for the country you wish to visit.

I was flying out of Bristol back to Malaga on Tuesday and at the Ryanair boarding gate somebody produced an out of date passport and was told by a staff member that it wasn't a problem as you can fly in and out of Spain with a passport which is up to 12 months out of date !! Believe that if you will. Don't think I'd like to risk it
