Parador closing

Sad new for Ayamonte, the Parador will close soon, despite it is a public company. 32 people more whithout a job.

that is terrible news is it a permanent closure or just over the winter. A good friends wife works there and it will be a huge blow to a lovely family.

I think it's temporary. I read a report that said a lot of the Paradors would be closing for 5 months of the year.

No, the one in Ayamonte will close definitely. But you are right concerning many other Paradors

I have also heard that the government are wanting to sell them to raise much needed money.
This isn't new! how many times have our uk government sold the 'family silver'
Its sad indeed. It isn't one of the best Paradors in terms of its historic connections or value of the building but the location is fantastic. we have stayed there on many occasions. The value of some of the Paradors must be impossible to estimate they are ancient monuments.

It will be interesting to see what value the government put on it! Will it be for sale?

It belongs to the government. Nice way to fight the unemployment and support the local economy!....

It must have been heavily subsidised. It was never busy enough It doesn't have very good reviews. Food only ever ok. service you wait ages. Having stayed there I can't argue with these points made. Our room was always lovely and the location is fantastic. It has probably been trading on its name for ages. I hope someone comes forward and takes it over. I am sure there is an opportunity there for someone.

What with the wolves being at the door, it should be noted that there is a period of discussion taking place.

Waiting for the outcome at the end of the month will be hard, I can imagine, for the workers and for the people who see the parador as an emblem of Ayamonte.

An article in Sur today says that 7 Paradors will close including Ayamonte. Workers have called a 2day strike.

Ayamonte parador was the one we visited most.
The location from the point of a bed to do day trips from was great.
The view was brilliant, until they spoiled it with terraces of council houses.

The service was good.
The food like all paradores was variable.

Portugal sold it's Pousadas to Pestana and they appear to be doing alright.
