Paperwork for moving dogs to Spain
Hi all,
Bit of clarity if anyone can help on this one. Intending on driving ourselves and our dogs down to Spain using the Eurotunnel and transiting through France. Looking at the Spanish requirement for importing your dogs it says you need the Animal Health Certificate and that it MUST be in Spanish, and that we must register them through a valid point of entry. However, if we are firstly entering the EU through France, does Calais become the valid point of entry, which doesnt need a Spanish translated AHC, or do we have to go through the process in BOTH countries? All the European websites just seem to say entry into the EU, and the Spanish website assumes if youre coming from outside the EU you will be directly entering the EU via Spain, not transiting as we are. Anyone transported their dogs like this since Brexit and can help? Thanks |

A phrase used in the EU guidance is "Traveller's point of entry in the EU country of destination" which suggests Spain, but I'm not a lawyer.
Maybe they'll answer your question in "Get help and advice" section. |

Hard to believe Spain will care about any paperwork issued by France.

Re: Paperwork for moving dogs to Spain
The AHC provided by a UK Vet will be accepted by Pet Reception at the Folkestone Eurotunnel terminal for taking your dogs into France. Once in France, there are no further checks on you or your dogs when you drive across the border into Spain. Once you are at your destination in Spain, go to a Spanish Vet and get your dogs Spanish/EU Pet's passports. This will make travel between the UK and Spain much easier in future. I have already done this for our dog and we have travelled between our home in Scotland and our holiday home on the Costa Blanca with no problems. Please note that getting a Spanish pet's passport is much cheaper than the cost of a AHC.

I do not know how many dogs you have but be aware that France regards any one who has five dogs or more as a breeder and I think this needs a different certificate

Re: Paperwork for moving dogs to Spain
they need to be chipped also to European normes or you could be fined a big amount at the first vet visit..
