Our electricity bill, more than NASA.

Our electricity bill, more than NASA.
I've been reading on other threads about how much people are paying for leccy and it seems we are paying quite a lot. Our last bill was for 360€, this months bill is for a very acceptable 85€ but on closer inspection that doesn't include consumption!
There are three of us living here and we consume about as much as anyone would be expected to; washing, cooking, TV, pool pump, lighting. It's not as if we even leave the outside lights on.
I've checked the meter and it doesn't look as if the local supermarket has jacked into our supply.
It is a big house, and we have 3 phase (16.5kw) but surely it shouldn't be so much?
I see that the night rate has been withdrawn, so what can we do to cut our bill?
Any advice (or solar panel donations) would be gratefully received!
Ste.

Wow that is one helluva big leccy bill!
Our highest is out winter one which was around €180 for two months and we have the aircon heating on all the time!
Why dont you get the leccy board out to check that everything is ok......you never know there could be a fault at their end!

Ours is about the same, €180 for two months.
Have you switched everything off and checked the meter is stopped?
A previous thread on this subject concluded that the most energy eating sources were water heating and cooking. We cut our water timer to come on for several hours in the morning and several in the afternoon and that seemed to help whereas we had it on all the time before because we were told that was the most cost efficient way.

It could be that the previous reading was an estimated one. If so and they overestimated then the next bill would be lower, just as you have found.
Check the readings on the bill and it will either say Lectura real or Lectura estimada.
The old night tarif has been discontinued from July 1st but it has been replaced with a new one with 14 hours of off peak supply. For most people it proves a better deal than the old one. It's called "Tarifa con Discriminación Horaria".
There is a lot of info here http://tinyurl.com/49mtoy

The most cost efficient way to heat water is a gas boiler and heat it on demand. I've got a gas hob for cooking and a gas boiler for hot water. I use one bottle of butane (13€ bottle) every six to eight weeks.
We work from home so we use our supply 24 hours and our biggest bill this year so far has been 120€.
Swapping AC for ceiling fans also saves a packet. (We have only turned on the AC three or four times this year.)
Average small/medium pool pump uses 750 watts. That alone run 24 hours a day (18 kWh/day) costs 120€ on each bill. I put mine on a time switch. It comes on 12 times a day for 20 minutes
Other places to save money are energy saving bulbs (maybe up to 25% of each bill).
Also, never site a fridge or freezer in an air conditioned part of the house and always ensure they have good airflow around the back to let the heat escape.
Oh, and last but not least, never use electricity for household heating of any kind.

Of course I was talking about Spain. You made a blanket statement that frost free appliances must be used in an air conditioned environment. My fridge is frost free and doesn't say anything about that in the manual. My point was what about the vast majority of owners. Most people don't have AC, even in Spain.
