optician
My OH needs an eye test. Does anyone know of an English speaking optician anywhere between Gandia and Valencia. Alzira, Carcaixent, Cullera, Algemisi etc would be best for us but do not hold out much hope for those towns.

Re: optician
I have used this UK company below for many years,One of the best glasses websites out there. Just send via e/mail and online order form details of your prescription and measure your PD (Pupilliary distance)This is the distance in millimeters from the center of the pupil in one eye to the center of the pupil in the other eye. This measurement is taken to ensure the correct positioning of your lenses within the frames you have chosen. You can do this yourself All explained on website. E/mails are from the man himself not some idiot. All in all a tip top site. Dont buy those cheapo rubbish from the market or get ripped off by the Spanish optician once he hears your accent buy here. You can even have designer frames if you wish  or send your old frames and have your updated lenses fitted in them. They post to Spain no problem guy init.

He has been saying almost every day for the last few months that his sight is getting worse and it is at least 2 years since his last eye test so he will definitely need to see an optician first and was delighted with your recommendation. My wife was quoted 450 euros for a none designer pair of Specs. She can not wear the market type due to a problem with her eyes........She can still see enough to empty yours trulys wallet. If you get your prescription the website I quoted is tip top and prices start at 18 euros all in. I was just showing whats out there I found the up market Optician here in Spain very expensive when put alongside a like premises in the UK. Not the hit and miss lucky lucky market trader. |

Seriously, one problem that can sneak up on you is glaucoma and the other is related to diabetes - I know as I have both. Of course as you get even older than me cataracts are another problem - all the more reason for at least a once a year eye test. Nowadays an optician should pick up on all signs of the above conditions. Beware though of those who use that puffer thing to check eye pressure - I know of quite a few instances where readings were seriously flawed and an urgent referral should have been made to an ophthalmologist. My glaucoma was only discovered by chance when I returned to the UK after some time in Malaysia. I wear contact lenses - the hard type and I had had new lenses in Malaysia but didn't think they were quite right - when I saw the UK optician all became clear (well not that clear) I now have an optician who specialises in contact lenses. He is also an academic and tours the world giving talks on latest developments etc. When I eventually get to live in Spain I will be asking him for the name of an optician around Valencia and making sure I take copies of all my records with me. |
