Default Opinions on Denia as a place to live.

Hi all,
I know I asked a little while back about living in Villalonga but we are compiling our list of possible properties and have seen one in Denia that fits the bill. I'm not familiar with Denia and was just looking for a few opinions on the town,,,ie: Too touristy?? like little uk?? you know the sort of thing .

Many Thanks

Ray

I don't think of Denia as being at all touristy - I prefer to live in Jávea - some would say that is very touristy, which it can be in July & August - although we don't seem to be heaving yet

I've just come back from the Grava beach & it wasn't at all busy

Javea was our chosed destination when we decided to move to Spain but somehow we were persuaded to buy on a new urbanisation many miles inland. Maybe if we had stuck to our guns we would still be in Spain

Yes, we would definitely have been able to meet up That would have been good. We actually looked at a few properties which we liked, if only we hadn't listened to that very clever sales rep

We chose to buy near Denia as it is quite 'Spanish' compared to some other resorts on Costa Blanca North. It doesn't 'shut down' in the winter, and is not totally populated by ex-pats and tourists, although it does have a lovely 'holiday vibe' during the summer.

It's always difficult to comment upon somewhere as a 'place to live', but I have to say that in the years I have lived on the CB I've have always found Denia to be a profoundly depressing place. Move just a sort distance outside the centre and to be frank I think it's a dump!
There again, it's a working town in many ways, so perhaps that's to be expected.
I must emphasise, this is my own opinion (shared by others btw!) BUT, the best advice is come and view it yourself, then make your own mind up.

No-one can tell you what a place is like to live in and it be totally correct due to the fact that we allo value different things about a place. I love my town and instinctively knew when we first visited it that it was the place for us but I know that most people would absolutely hate it. Visiting and experiencing for yourself is the only way to gain a true feel for a place. If possible spend a great deal of time there so that you can evaluate it at different times of day.

Good luck with your research.

If you are considering Denia also have a look at Gandia. It is has a much better vibe. Also direct train link to Valencia.

Hmmm ... we go to Denia quite a lot. It's always full of tourists and / or expats of various nationalities. I do like the place for sure, especially the older part .... but I'm not sure I would live there simply because it doesnt suit me

J1 mentions Gandia ..... now that IS a lot more Spanish

We spent some time in Gandia when we were out in March and found it to be very Spanish, almost to the extent of it being a 'local town for local people'!
If you are going to buy in Spain, it is worth visiting anywhere that piques your interest at every time of the year. Watching the Spanish families 'pasear' in the Marques de Campo in Denia is always a pleasure for us...

PS We don't have a house right in the town, but it is certainly one of our favourite places for a local night out!

I live in Denia so if you want to know anything specific just pm me.

Its a nice place to live - 2 bike shops/coffee is 1e/beer 2.5e a pint in the marina/little slow train down the coast...

You could do far worse, & probably a little better.

I have a friend who owns a hotel there. He loves Denia, but I would not like to live there.

It really depends on what your own requirements are?
