The Chinese have moved into the Spanish bar business around Valencia area, big time, taking lots of bars over that were previously Spanish.

I think many of the Spanish owners have suffered during the recession and couldn't carry on, so they've made a nice investment for all the spare Chinese money that's floating about.

Just going back to the original reference, Dealz is a watered-down version of the familiar UK poundshop (of whatever variety) because here there are lots of household goods, tat you wouldn't normally consider you need, etc., but somewhat fewer multi-pack crisps and brand name chocolates and so on. But there are still some and although I don't shop there (Malaga branch) I've heard people talk about going there for the crisps/chocs type stuff which you wouldn't generally buy in a Chino. Well you could, but it would be the typical palomitos etc! Worth considering which bits of the market you might want to approach.

This article (in Spanish) explains the 10 secrets behind the Chinese way of doing business

Los 10 Mandamientos Chinos del Emprendedor. - Negocios1000

I'd agree with other posters. Discount stores, whether the Chinese variety or the British Dealz, have already taken most of this market.
Of course there are other stores that aim at the discount purchase (but not quite at the same low level). Primark are expanding in Spain, as are Tiger and Ikea.
