Default One month rental from 23rd January

Stage 2 of the planned move is to rent in the new year to see the weather at it's worst. We will be driving down through France and plan to arrive in Almeria Provence on the 223rd January for 4 weeks, 2 of us plus one small dog (Cairn Terrier).
As we are looking for a country property to buy it makes sense to rent something similar for our test month so:

Location from about Huercal-Overa in the east to Granada/Loja in the west

No coastal villas.

Edge of village/town if possible but small hamlet or more remote acceptable.

Below about 750m

Finca/traditional style so we can get a feel for how this style works with the weather.

We have been pouring over rental web sites but they seem to be worse than the selling sites. Any personnel recommendations for people to contact or with suitable properties they know of would be well received.

Thanks, Peter, Cathy and Rufus

For just a month, you'll need to look at holiday rentals and hope you can get a good rate.

Try homeaway.com

Absolutely right. We did exactly that , trawled Homeaway looking for properties with long periods without occupancy and then emailed the owners offering a deal for six weeks in the middle of winter. It took time but eventually found one owner who was willing to negotiate rather than leave the property empty.

Another site to try is : https://www.ownersdirect.co.uk

Were using.
https://www.costasur.com/
Will say we have not use them before but there cheaper than Tripadvisor.
For our reccie we have booked for 6 weeks mid Jan onwards. After what we have read on on here about looking for property's. We may ask can we knock it down to 4 and ask can we book some where in the North Malaga Province for the other 2 weeks

H all, thanks for replies. We have now found ourselves a place near Baza (Hope it's better than the autocorrect of Gaza) for our month in the new year.
Really looking forward to being able to spend some time exploring the region and looking at potential new homes.

Hi, where have you found? We live near Baza. Just to advise, January is really cold here, but with really sunny days but as I said, cold nights. We are at 785m, for your info. Weather representative of the alti plano area, but not necessarily the rest of Spain, especially the coast! Please feel free to P.M. me closer to the time you are over.We have gone through all that you are about to. That was four years ago and we live here permanently now of course! If thats a help.

Does that translate as bloody freezing at night in the winter?

Yep, you are right. In fairness, January and February it will be very cold at night. No getting away from that, but the days are fine and sunny. Its a climate of extremes 'up here', Cold Winters, Hot Summers. Spring and Autumn are hardly noticeable if I am honest. Warm weather slides into colder weather and back again. Weird, very little rainfall and no damp air is the big bonus!

Life on the alti - plano suuuuure is turrrrrf. (Not really, love it!)

If you plan on living here as an 'Ex Pat', bring your Pioneer spirit and an open mind........ this ain't no namby pamby , full English breakfast, happy hour, walk round in flip flops with your gob open and saying 'Mornin' to everyone kind of place. Its Spanish, rural Spanish!!!

Hi! So, you're looking for a holiday rental? I've been working a little bit with these guys <snip>, they're specialised in renting/selling real estate to expats, so it might be interesting!
