I read this excellent mag on line, I have never seen it on the CDs.

Do you know of it? Where do you pick up a copy ?( i am in Funny gorilla (Fuengirola))

What do you think of this Publication?

Each to their own, but personally I've never liked its editorial tone. It tends to aim for Daily Mail expat, promoting a very much 'us and them' mentality. This may seem nonsense on the surface of it given that they do dedicate pages to cultural events with the aim of getting expats to join in, but when you go deeper you see that the tone is more akin to 'We are British and they are Spanish, nothing will ever change that, we have our ways and they have theirs, and our way is better'. Some of the stories they have done over the last couple of years that I've been aware of them include a major front page piece attacking bullfighting and how barbaric the Spanish are for letting it happen; they've done various stories where people having much such a monumental catalogue of errors when buying their property (something they would NEVER have done in the UK) and they are then portrayed as the poor victims; stories that get scant coverage in the Spanish press are often given mighty coverage leading the reader to believe that this is something bigger than it actually is (there are several but memory not good these days - one that standds out was to do with another drugs siezure leading the Olive Press reader to think that there is a massive drug problem in a certain area instead of pointing out that a recently appointed task force for the whole Andalucian coast was staring to pay dividends and gaing some very high profile arrests); I could go on.

That said, they do have a few journos on staff that do actually seek out the story instead of just translating ones from Spanish press, so that should be applauded.

As for availabilty in Fuengirola, you should be able to get it quite easily. It was originally intended to cover the towns away from the coast (Ronda, Granada etc) which - and I'm guessing here - was possibly due to not wanting to compete with the big coastal based papers, and possibly because the coastal papers didn't have great distribution away from the coast. This seems to have changed over the last 12 months as I've seen it more and more in the coastal areas. Try your usual outlets and I'm sure you'll find it.

As far as I know it originated in Orgiva but I think it branched out to other areas, although I haven't seen a copy of one for many a moon.

You should be able to get it down your way. Same place as the usual other papers, although possibly not in all as they don't print in the same numbers as the others.

We get it sometimes, think it is one of the best ones. Sorry to see they are running those financial ads like that european rag! Have some good ads for rural hotels though.

The Eastern Edition of the OP has folded unfortunately. The Western Edition is still going, this should be the one you can get in Fuengirola.

I have heard that the editor of the Western Edition is an ex Daily Mail journalist.

Shame if that's the case. As I said, I have issues with its editorial line, but they did at least try and put out a decent product (even if it wasn't to my taste)

I always wonder about '...and I hear they're going bust' comments on forums posted by 'irregular' members. I might almost think that such remarks come from a competing newspaper. In fact, there is one that springs to mind as capable of this type of sabotage.
The Olive Press is about life in Spain - for the Britons who live here. Warts and all. If you want it cranked up a level, you read El País. If you want filler, fluff, advertising features, piffle and froth, I believe that there are a couple of free English-langauge newspapers available which will fit the bill nicely. Sky TV as well.
Personally, writing as an old newspaper hand (I started 'The Entertainer' in 1985), I can say that the Olive Press is one of the best I've seen, but it's definately for those 'who like Spain'.

Just as clarifcation, I have just been informed that my signature (which I don't get to see but you guys do) is an outdated one from last year and of course in light of what I have said previously in this post it will have appeared that I was competitor having a pop. I was not, the sig is out of date. I have now removed the sig.

In summary of what my previous posts said - I don't like the editorial tone but each to their own; they do at least employ journalists who go out and get the story from scratch which other papers here - including ones I've been involved with - seldom do; and finally, even though the paper isn't my cup of tea, it would be a shame to see it go (if indeed this is the case as you pointed out Lenox) because they do at least make an effort on putting out a quality product.

I know from a reliable source (the Editor, who is a personal friend of mine) that the Eastern Edition of the Olive Press has ceased publishing. I know because he is my friend, not because I am anything to do with any rival newspaper.

As far as I know the Western Edition is still publishing.

I have enjoyed reading the olivepress on the few occasions I've seen it though.
Once you get past the Orgiva eco warrior articles, there has been some interesting historical stuff re the Spanish civil war etc.
