The problem is with the original link that equates cost with useful KW/hrs

I can't find anyone who sells logs, wood pellets etc by the useful KW/hr ;)

An average value for the heating capability of normal seasoned hardwood (energy density) is 3-4 kWh/kg. Kiln dried hardwood logs may be as high as 4.5 kWh/kg, and this wood will be premium priced but will offer the highest heat output per kg. Wood at an energy density of 4 kWh/kg will result in an average energy yield of 1700 kWh per cubic metre of well seasoned, stacked hardwood. In the UK this provides an energy cost of approx. 4.1 pence per kWh, which is well below the present UK cost of bulk deliveries of heating oil.

Wood pellets are usually £200 per tonne , 4,800 kWh/t , 4.2p/kWh :thumbup:

Hello, Lurchio, I have paid around the same price as you but there is also 21% IVA on top of the Euro 1.05 - yes?

So I tried to compare UK heating oil prices with Spanish prices. To be like for like, I remove the 5% UK fuel duty and compare it to the Euro 1.05 we paid I calculate an equivelent british litre of heating oil to be around Euro 0.64 per liter. That means there is a 64.1% premuim in the raw heating oil price between Spain and the UK. Now add 5% UK fuel duty and 21% Spanish IVA and the difference is a whopping 88.3% difference in price!

How can there be such a great difference? Can anyone point me in the right direction to understand why Spanish heating oil is 64% higher than the UK? This is an eye watering difference. And the UK is an island, Spain mainland.

Obviously, there must be some logic behind this price differential or I must be missing something.

Can someone please point me in the right direction to better understand this?

Maybe there's a case for an increase in the winter heating allowance for those of us suffering the hardships of Spanish winters in inadequate housing with ever increasing heating costs. :cool:

By the way, a bottle of Butano is up to a staggering 17-49 euros from today with a further possible increase in a couple of months.

it was IIRC 14 euros beginning of last year

obviously the state is allowing free movement, so not only do people get taxed directly but indirectly

small wonder the black is getting darker
