Offered job, how far will this salary go in Barcelona?
Hi All,
Im a single guy in my 30's been offered a position in Barcelona paying 38,000 Euros/ £32,000.
Ive been reading how expensive it is there and wondering how will I be able to do on this salary?
I dont have any kids or any other responsibilities and my mortgage is paid off in the UK. Appreciate its like saying how long is a piece of string as it depends on your lifestyle but I wouldnt be looking to live near the city center and would consider commuting if possible. Go out once or twice a week for meals or to bars. Dont have too many expensive habits.
Thanks.

Sure that would be fine
I earnt a bit more than that in Barcelona, but rents were much higher then (2007)
You can get a good 1 bed flat for 800-1000 euros per month anywhere you like in Barcelona. So you'd have around 1200-1400 euros left over for everything else
Public transport is cheap with a nearly free bicycle scheme. Eating out and drinking is as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. You don't need a car as the train goes to many places on the Coast. A car can be costly as you need to pay to park it, a garage is around 100 euros per month.

Jackytoo asked me why I didnt take a job I was offered 5 years ago, I replied saying I took a job elsewhere. I was replying to her question, I know its not relevant to my current situation regarding Barcelona, but I was just replying.
So far 4 people have responded, but only one has answered with any information regarding my current situation. The rest have just been random and not relevant, why bother replying at all?

I know nothing about Barcelona, but I wouldn't spend a grand a month on rent, that's for sure.

In London, rents are much more expensive. Its 2 grand a month for a nice 2-3 bed flat there. I moved from London to Barcelona so it seemed relatively cheaper.

Then you won't live anywhere nice in Barcelona. A 1,000 euros really isnt very much for rent, well depends how much you earn of course

we moved out of the city to a part furnished 3 bed house for €350
most landlords will take a hit on the rent they are asking just to get a tenant
but remember the intro fee from agents is one month rent paid for by the tenant - unless the landlord is really desperate
