Hi , we have recently moved to estepona malaga and would really like to
continue watching sky one and the other sky channels here in spain....does anyone know how we can do this and who we would need to contact...i have checked online and have seen a company called skycards....they say i can either obtain a dish and sky box and a hosted sky card off them and purchase the usual sky bundle and obtain the channels that way ....or i can obtain a wifi on demand vpn router and obtain the bundles on a pay as you go basis.....does anyone know of this company and does anyone know if this works or does anyone actual obtain sky channels in any other way....any reply would be greatly appreciated..thank you ...andy and fiona....

If you have a dish, a sky hd or sky+hd box and a sky subscription then yes you can watch sky channels in spain.
Some channels may not be available as these depend on what sized dish you have and where you are.
Although Sky are not allowed, due to contracts and rights issues, to send cards to non UK addresses, the company you mention will "host" the card at a uk address for you...probably for an annual fee.

Or look for an internet based system, which usually means using a third party streaming service for getting the channels

thank you so much guy for your swift reply...we left all our sky boxes at home..so wondered how exactly would we obtain an internet based system...what would we actually have to purchase in order to obtain the internet based system..and would you have any contacts.

You buy an android box , ( cost varies but approx €150,- ) loads of people offer them on the Costa. Check out "EuroNews" or "The OLive Press " .They come pre-loaded with Apps such as Mobdro and UKTVNow . Some stores will try and charge a monthly fee which is not necessary. Most critical bit is having a stable internet connection at a reasonable speed , anything from 20 MBs up is fine, some of them work at 3 - 5 MBs but prone to buffering.

You will not easily find one in a shop as it is illegal to sell any device that is set up to receive copyright content. You can buy it a basic Android box but you will have to set it up. There are many suppliers on the Internet who will ask you for a monthly sub of around €25 but even then, these suppliers are having problems as the content comes from illegal sites which are getting closed down.

On of our local suppliers was having a really bad time recently when the streaming service he was buying from and reselling got closed down and all his customers were getting very upset.

If you want Sky then you should get a proper Sky subscription, which is not actually illegal to use in Spain as it is just a breach of your Sky contract to use it outside the UK. Sadly, in your area you will be unable to receive the UK basic channels such as BBC ITV C4 etc there is no coverage.

Of course there is always Amazon it has a great selection from about €40,- but then you have to download all the Apps yourself. Not difficult, just time-consuming.

Ebay UK have sellers who sell box fully loaded with everything for 12 months. I mean everything 3o clock football kick offs all latest films the lot. I think mag54 is the latest box. They are between £120 to £200
As long as you have internet speed all OK.
Or you can buy the mag box...price varies...and get a 12 month subscription to channels for about £55 and load yourself which is simple.
Not strictly legal but all the bars in Spain/Portugal/Canaries use similar thing.

The boxes are illegal with sellers being prosecuted.
You pays your money takes the risk.
The main providers, sky etc are shutting down the feeds.

I don`t think Spain & Portugal are that bothered about legality when the boxes are openly advertised in newspapers
A soon as Sky etc shut down the feeds new ones are popping up that is why Sky are resorting to asking Virgin broadband etc to block the feeds....That`s easy to get around as well.
Sky concentrate on UK users with the help of UK Government...person who made enquiry was regarding Spain

It does not really matter whether Spain and Portugal are bothered with the legality of the boxes what does matter is that BE do not wish illegal practices to be encouraged on the forum.

The boxes are not illegal in Spain Or Portugal....If you can point me to somewhere where a bar owner for instance who use them all the time or a private individual has been prosecuted for illegal use in those Countries please accept my apologies.

Sky, BT, Netflix etc are shutting down the feeds to the sites these boxes use to access Sky, sports etc.
It is not illegal to sell a box that offers access to "free to air channels" but any preloaded with the software that allows access to subscription or encrypted channels are and sellers are being prosecuted, not just in the UK.
Owners of these boxes will eventually find these channels blocked .
It is already happening.
We have a friend in Portugal who are on their third box chasing access to Sky ,BBC etc.

Where else are they being prosecuted?
If they are on their third box they want to get a decent supplier.
Sky will never fully block it there is too much money in it for people who deal in the streams and that includes Sky engineers.

Sky are blocking streams.
Dealers have received 6 figure fines and suspended sentences.
The case law only came into existence last year so it is early days .

Personally I am not really into all technical bits of downloading....I pay £55 press 3 buttons on remote its loaded and I get everything for 12 months...If it were to go bums up after a month which it doesn`t I would not lose anything.
I have an unused magbox I might have a go at it myself one of these days.
