I used to live in Spain for a number of years now only about 4-5 months a year. I used to have a supermarket app in Spain but assume it’s been closed . I managed to set up a new account and it worked about 3 months ago- but now have to confirm my NIE number but it states its invalid. Assume that’s because I don’t have the new TIE.
I have shown my card number on my phone but they are reluctant to accept it.

I can not download the app from the Uk or while in Spain.

Would it help/work if I bought a Spanish sim while here to download the app?

has any one had the same problem and resolved it?

Yes get a Spanish SIM, they work wonders!!

What phone are you using? It shouldn't be the phone that is keeping you from downloading the app but the appstore you are using. For instance on an iPhone if you have a UK iTunes (Apple ID) account then you won't see some Spanish apps (the developers can control which countries can see/download the app). But you can quickly set up a second Apple ID for Spain and download any app you want. It's got nothing to do with the SIM.

The NIE is for life, I cannot see how it would show up as invalid. Which supermarket app are we talking about?

A lot of Spanish companies won't do business with you if you don't have a Spanish phone number!!

True, I guess you can always get a prepaid SIM and put it on an automatic 1 EUR/mth tariff just to receive calls.

Try using a VPN

I doubt that will work. As previously said you need a Spanish iTunes account. I use a Spanish and UK account to get round the problem.

I suggested it as currently in Brasil and had difficulty accessing Carrefour website in Spain. using a VPN resolved the problem

The OP mentioned that the problem isn't the website but the app. And that he cannot download it even in Spain.

If the phone in question is an iPhone then a new, Spanish Apple ID (iTunes account) is needed.

It is entirely dependent on which Apple ID you are using. UK Apple ID will only allow you to download from UK store.
You can create a second one for use in Spain or when wishing to use Spanish Apps.

For Android your guess is as good as mine..but a VPN will only give you a local IP number, not affect your home App Store location.

Whether you can download a Spanish app using a UK Apple ID depends solely on the app's developers/owners. Sometimes they make the app available globally (or across multiple markets), other times they might only want it to be visible to Spanish users.

So, yes - in order to use all of the Spanish apps that might be useful here it will be necessary (sooner or later...) to register for a Spanish Apple ID as well.

The only app I've had problems downloading with my UK Apple ID is Carrerfour. Not going to switch my ID to the Spanish app store for the sake of it.

However are people suggesting two Apple ID and switching to enable download? After getting the Spanish store apps are they switching back to original UK Apple ID and App Store?

In my experience Carrefour app and website not the best technology - they need to invest in a better more sophisticated system.

My wife and I both use dual sim android phones one sim uk the other spanish that works fine for us. But talking about some apps just not downloading we have only had that issue with one app and that was MediaMart. We bought a printer online expecting from the description online that it would print double sided automatically. We had ordered it online main site not the app and collected it from local mediamart site. We got the printer home tested it worked great but couldn't print automatically double sided. So we took it back to store we collected it from. They said you've opened it so it cant be returned here? errr yes we opened to try it put ink in tested it and it doesnt do what you advertise, how can we test it without opening it? The woman we spoke to was very helpful but the manager she had a lengthy phone conversation with insisted it had to be arranged to be picked up and returned online. We pointed out that wasnt per terms and conditions but if no other way we would do that, how do we do that. The woman said via the app, but we didnt order it via the app? she said download the app to which we said it wont download as it says not available in your country? So she tried using my wifes phone and couldn't download the app. So she went onto their site and scrolled through everything but couldnt find the part re returns instructions . So i said so how do we return it, we collected it from here 2 hours ago? another lengthy phone call to manager eventually she said give it to me and we will refund your card Matter resolved after about an hour. Two things I have no idea why the mediamart app wont download to our phones as the data sim on our phones is the Spanish sim. Second be aware buy online from mediamart for in store collection does not mean any issues the store collected from will deal with.

The good thing is that you can create a new Spanish Apple ID (iTunes) account using even just a web browser. And once you have it you can easily switch to the Spanish store without changing your UK Apple ID for any other settings/features.

Just open the Settings app, click on your name up top, then click on "Media and Purchases." Logging out of there only logs you out of the AppStore, keeping your UK Apple ID intact for everything else (iMessage, etc.).

Then log in using your Spanish credentials and you'll see all the Spanish apps you're looking for in the AppStore. Afterwards you can naturally just log out (only in the "Media and Purchases") area and log back in with your UK details.
