The authorities in Spain do rescue people from vessels in difficulty in Spanish waters and take them to the nearest port, as is their obligation under international maritime law. They also (I assume) participate in joint efforts in other EU waters, for which they may provide personnel, equipment, vessels etc.

Not just, no, although it appears only now to have hit the headlines. The donation was made in 2018, to a Spanish NGO engaged in search and rescue missions in the Med, one of whose vessels was laid up for repairs for which they didn't appear to have the necessary, until Mr Guardiola stumped up with it from his own pocket. That particular NGO and its vessels have since been blocked by the Spanish government from conducting search and rescue missions but may deliver aid and supplies.

Other similar non-Spanish organisations and vessels were also operating in the region at the time, including a UK NGO, so maybe giving all the credit to "Spain" is a touch over-generous.

Mr Guardiola has also (amongst other things) donated €1m to a foundation supplying medical equipment to fight Coronavirus in his home country. An exceedingly benevolent chap in the philanthropy department, it appears.
An exceedingly rich champagne socialist sat in his ivory tower that won’t live anywhere near the areas that these refugees settle in.

Any ideas about the 90/ 180 days?

So does my 180 days start when I go to the UK and come back to spain? ( if they let me).
I been here since October.
I believe that it started jan 1st when brexit kicked in. So you are on a tourist visa until roughly end of March, then you have to leave for 90 days. It's likely that at this point if you leave after the end of March you won't be allowed back in for a year for violating visa laws. We're in the same position but deliberately as we are packing up and going. We were supposed to go last year and Covid stopped that. We go just after Easter.

I really suggest you talk to a lawyer as others have said. Things are likely to change when the borders open again but don't bank on it helping.

If you want to apply now you must do it through the Spanish Embassy in UK, a Gestor or solicitor in Spain cannot help you.

This may be of use....Visas (FAQ)

I understand that the cost for a non lucrative visa is currently a shade over £500 per applicant. Full healthcare is required, before you can travel to Spain to further your application.

Good luck.

Frankly I wouldn't hold out much hope of sympathy from border authorities for overstayers using COVID as an excuse.

Many will have been in Spain since before the first lockdown a year ago so cannot with any sincerity try to claim that in all that time they had not had an opportunity to return to UK.

Anybody who had genuinely wanted to would have found a way.

I have no doubt that the border control will be more than happy to stamp the passport with "illegal overstay" or whatever and so rid the country of yet another illegal immigrant.

I think I'm lucky, because I'm originally from Germany, have been living in the UK for over ten years but I still have a German passport, so I should be fine without a visa. Does anybody remembers how much it is when asking a Gestor to sort out the residencia???

Thanks a lot

Before Brexit when UK citizens were still in EU, a gestor would charge anything from around 80 euro per person to sort out registration as resident (green certificate). A lawyer would charge around 150 euro.

Yes, sure. Add about 50 euro for that if you ask them to do both. It now requires two separate applications and two visits.
