Default Noche Vieja in Spain? Book bars?

I've heard a lot of people have to book places in bars to get in on NYE? Is this true or would it only be for restaurants and clubs?

In my experience most bars and cafes are closed on new yrs eve. The Spanish prefer to celebrate at home.

Friends of mine who always celebrated the New Year in Oliva always reserved a table a a cafe/bar that was ticket only for the night but that included food as well.

Seems in Granada most bars are open, then close 20mins before midnight, then all open again until late?
So, tickets are only for food reservations?

In Madrid many bars don't bother opening until after midnight as the Spanish see in the new year at home with family and then go out afterwards.
