Public duties? "to reward former prime ministers for work including answering letters and attending public events."

As they are no longer PMs, there are no public duties: if they are invited to a public event they are normally already paid to do so by the organizers. Speeches, parties, photos... why public money too??? Even if they were not paid to attend or give their opinion, they would still be creating public interest in their figures, so they would be paid next time.

would be nice to be invited to a function, get a free meal and get paid for attending.
normally they want me to pay to attend + extra for eats

ISTR some Tory set up a trust for Maggie to enable her to meet the added costs of setting up an office, responding to letters, writing articles etc ??

Filthy scum sucking benefit thieves the lot of 'em. Didn't that article say that Blair was getting more one year since quitting than he received when he was PM?

Lies to us, lies to Parliament, drags us into a dishonest war and then settles back in lavish retirement, and while the rest of us scrimp and save, he merely rifles the public purse.

I remember reading he has received over £2.5m over the past couple of years, keeps this up and will be getting as much as Cherry.
and he has been exceedingly low profile in his middle east peace envoy role since it got a bit hairy out there.
always was a waste of space.

And all that on top of the huge pension he gets for being a former prime minister, he shouldn't get a penny more!

This sort of thing is a slap in the face to all of us.

Seems to me that both church and state just take the p'iss out of us relentlessly.

Yeah. What's worse is that when the three great piss takers (Crown, State & Church) abuse us, there are always people quick to spring to their defence.

Defending the indefensible.
