NIE renewal Question

Hi All

This is the second time I have had to renew the 5 year NIE card.
The first time I got a blue ID card that looked like the spanish DNI card with a photo on it and my address etc.

Its expired so I went with all the paperwork and the old card and renewed it.
Now I have a green-blue credit card sized piece of paper with just my details printed on it? no photos or expiry date etc. Doesnt look like it will last for 5 years to tell the truth.

Have I been given the wrong thing? The old card I could use as a form of ID but not this one?

Any comments please.

you've been given the right thing

what you had before was your 'residencia' card - now you have a 'resident registration certificate/card'

it's no good as ID & doesn't expire - it's simply a record that you are registered as a resident

Re: NIE renewal Question

whilst I generally agree with the above, I regularly use it for ID as I do my UK picture driving licence. Have also used my UK home town photo bus pass for ID.

if you are worried about its longevity you will find it fits into those clear plastic wallets companies use for Visitors badges - which I just happened to have when I got my green card.

I haven't used it as ID as yet but my new-ish Spanish driving licence also has my NIE on so I guess I could use it...maybe:fingerscrossed:

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.
