Default Newby, just bought in Granada!

Hi, just bought a lovely house in Baza for an excellent price. Its was a lifestyle decision rather than an investment ('as if' at the moment!) I like the area (lakes, motorcycling roads etc.) and the people (locals).

Does not appear to be a goodly amount of ex pats in the area, just wondering if you are out there!

Second home at the moment, but hoping to move out 2013/14, interested in any info on local area/ex pats.

Cheers.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

I loved Baza when I visited it, there was a huge market going on and the place buzzed with life, hope you will be very happy with your choice of place.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Rosemary

Just out of interest, what percentage of the asking price did you pay? I may be buying in Spain or France within the next year or two.

In my experience as an estate agent, most people are offering about 25% less than the asking price, not everyone accepts this though!

Hi,

Spot on! 25% less than the asking price did it, as the owners were wanting to get back to the UK I was able to get the (very good quality) furniture/appliances in the price as well. It had to be a quick sale for them, though, so I had my bit to do as well. Still had it surveyed first and followed all the advice regarding Solicitors/ Deeds / Land Registry stuff.

I know that a lot is spoken about the state of the economy/property market in Spain, and lord knows we did much travelling to many areas of Spain during the 'research time', but the simple fact is that as a result of the depressed market/economy I was able to buy a house in a beautiful area which I could NEVER have dreamed to have afforded in the 'old days'.

As I said, it was a lifestyle choice in the end.....................................

There are lots of ex-pats in Baza. I think they have a website too.

Hi, we live in the Altiplano area of Granada too. Hope it's OK to put in local forum details for you where you can see lots of info about the Baza, Huescar, Freila area. It is: http://caveliving.forummotion.com Although it says "cave living" it isn't just for those of us who live in the caves in the area. (SNIP)

Just looking at that site it states that the winter fuel payment rules for expats have been overturned and now all pensioners claiming pension are entitled to claim it, not just those that claimed before moving abroad?

That's true, the claim form "will be available for download in August". Not yet though, just looked.

If you look on the direct.gov.uk website it should be paid automatically if you are in receipt of a pension. However the site is a little confusing to me at least.
