Hi to everyone
I have loved reading through the different posts and must say the evidence shows there is not a sane one among you. Having said that you all seem like a great bunch of people. I am moving out to Spain in a couple of months with my 12 yr old daughter. At the moment we dont know what part of Spain to choose. Hoping if I could throw some questions at you it will help us decide. Doing a scout around in a couple of weeks. 12 yr old daughter with very basic Spanish and I cant afford an International School. Has anyone had experience of introducing a child of this age and ability into a state school or know where I can fint internet schooling from? What would be the chance of me renting a place for 6 to 12 months with 2 x small dogs would anyone know where to look? All I can find are holiday rentals. Any ideas what the work prospects for a hypnotherapist would be in Spain? I dont do stage work. Clynical, past life and NLP fast phobia work, weight loss etc. As you can see I dont go in for planning!! We have been talking about moving for 5 years & we have got bored of talking and are just going to do it. Thank you all  |
Re: Newbie with Loads of questions
Thank you every one for posting you have all given me confidence and good advice that I definatly feel ready for the move. I have organised financec so my daughter can go to an international school (her paternal grand parents are willing to pay) so I still get my private income to pay rent & live on so when I can earn I can pay for extras. I am closer to finding a place to live thanks to you all.
My confidence is at an all time high. Other single parents out there, others willing to just go for it it is all brilliant. I understand the need for planning and I appreciate the warnings but I feel ready now thanks to your help and the links you have provided. See you out there. Just need to sort out how we get out sort out accomodation and dogs and car & furniture sales!! The logistics is the hard bit! |
Re: Newbie with Loads of questions
Don't do what a lot do and leave your brain behind ;) Don't be pushed into anything you don't want to do, keep a clear head and be careful who you trust. Also get to an internet cafe as often as you can so you can check wth us on here before you commit to anything. We will all help as much as we are able

Check out Javea. It has three distinct areas - the old town, the port and the beach. Everyone I know loves it here!
Good luck with your move wherever you settle. Kindest regards Pyknicpie |

The old town is traffic-free and very pretty. The port/marina is bustling and fun. There are no high rise hotels or apartments and just a couple of hotels near the beach. A good place to stay while you look is the Marriot Hotel (La Sella) between Javea and Denia near Jesus Pobre. I´ve found the local Spanish people here very friendly, happy and helpful. The schools are good (I believe) and the climate has long been recommended by the World Health Organisation to be the most perfect in Europe. Jávea’s air quality is excellent. Why not google for "Javea" and "Xabia" (old spelling) and see what you can find? Kindest regards Pyknicpie |

Kindest regards Pyknicpie Xà bia isn't the "old spelling" by the way - it is Valencian, a language that is very much alive. Go away from the bars on the beach and into the bars in the old town and it is all you will hear. Such is the strength of local feeling that a lot of road signs that say Javea get crossed out and Xà bia is scrawled in its place. And that WHO recommendation is almost 50 years old! A lot has changed since, but of course estate agents still trot it out to potential buyers! |
