Default Newbie after a little help

Hi All we're new here,We are embarking on a new life in Fuengirola I do have family that all live in Benelmadena but wanted to ask for help/info from outsiders if possible 😁
Me & my partner will be making a few trips this year to finalise the details,We are looking at running a bar just wanted to reach out & see if there's any bar owners that would help give me the low down of over heads etc and danger areas 🙈 (My grand parents were taken for a ride when buying a bar back in the early 90s)
A little about us- I am 34 & my partner is 28 I have two teenagers who won't be coming with us due to one jetting off to America for Uni and the other having a successful career in the UK were both hard workers and I am under no illusion of the hard work as I said my family have set up in Spain many years ago and still live there now retired and others own businesses.
I have also lived in Benalmadena when my children were younger & then moved to Tenerife sadly I'm ashamed to admit my Spanish is not great 😕
We will be renting a Bar long term and also renting our home which I'm aiming at going further out as always cheaper 👍🏻 (for the house)
We will be travelling out in October to finalise bits and pieces so would also be helpful to meet up with anyone in the same sort of area that would be interested in giving us any help or advise.
My son will be staying in our property so not a lot to bring over apart from our beloved dog Rex!
Any advise is welcome I want the brutal truth lol as I need this to work,I am also a Slimming World consultant so if anyone is interested in a group in that area please let me know 😊
Thank you for reading this and look forward to speaking with some of you xx

Hi Rosemary,

Thank you and it's lovely to hear the other members are also friendly 😊 I was a little nervous about putting everything out there in this post but I've learnt first hand what a great place the forums are to find everything out...so fingers crossed

You will inevitably receive some negative comments but in the main these will be trying to help you. Many people ask questions but when others answer with anything negative they reply that if it is not possible to answer positively then they should not answer at all. However this would provide a very lopsided version of life in Spain so it is not helpful and in the main our members try very hard to give a realistic picture of what occurs or what the prospects are regarding the subject that is being discussed.

Take the rough with the smooth and you will gain a lot of information.

Thank you for the advise,I want the good & bad anyway so that's fine My family have been through lots so I'm aware how hard it can sometimes be
It all helps as my partner needs to see it honestly as he has never lived abroad & some people view it as an extended holiday when in reality it's hard work but work hard and the rewards are excellent! (That's what I found in my experience anyway)

Thank you xxx

I think I already watch it,is it called a new life in the sun?
Strange as Benelmadena was on there it's the bar that me & my nan used to go to bingo at
Really good info from that show though it definitely shows the ups and downs!
Thanks Jean Xx

The C4 show is truly awful. Ignore it. Your family and others will get you off to a good start with the low down on red tape etc. That's half the job done. The other half will be made up of location, USP and working 24/7 in what is a competitive environment. Best wishes for success.
