Default New style "Residency" certificates.

No longer do you have to carry around an A4 sheet of paper.

It would have been nice if they could have incorporated a photo!

Well, that's an improvement. I must admit I've stopped worrying about it, I belong to neighbourhood watch and we've been assured by high police levels that they'll accept ordinary copies of anything as long as there's no illegal intent.

I think we worry more than they do.

....or bad news as I've only recently got mine A4 type.
though I can't see its of any great importance if its folded to quarter size for ease of carrying.

Jo, I re-married three years ago. We were both widowed before.

Could we make it legal afterwards? No way, Jose. It's impossible. The paper mountain even overwhelmed the best abogado we found.

We get by by lies, of necessity.

You never had to carry the A4 doc either as it was not valid for ID , nor is the new one so we still have to carry our passports

I don't think it is compulsory but if you are asked to prove your ID and you produce your "foreign" passport it would not be unreasonable for the police to ask about your residency status.

If so, that is the only document that proves it so it might avoid unnecessary hassle if you carry it with your passport.

If you know your NIE number they can varify it over the radio.

No problem at all - I can even remember my wife's and my 3 children's! Maybe I've simply got a good head for mundane facts
