New Speed Limit
The govt (in its infinite wisdom) has lowered the speed limit on autovias from March 7th to a paltry 110kph. Vroom vroom.

More money is needed in the coffers, so shake it out of the motorists:thumbdown::thumbdown: |
Re: New Speed Limit
I did read last week about a limit of 30Km/hr on single lane roads in built up areas. 30mph is hard to keep down to, at about 16mph you just as well get out and walk. ;)

Re: New Speed Limit
I thought it was 30 already? It is in Vejer.
What's the definition of a built up area? |

Re: New Speed Limit
68 point something MPH, it will seem like crawling on the motorways.....
And are they trying to slip this one in on the quiet, because I have not see it plastered all over the press or seen it being debated on the TV, so I presume that they hope to catch everyone unawares, sly barstewards. |

http://www.elpais.com/articulo/espan...pepunac_21/Tes Apparently it is a temporary measure to save energy due to the high price of oil. They are also decreasing the fares on the railways |

Well on paper they are sensible measures until the situation improves (IMO) and combined with a reduction in rail fares shows to me that someone in Madrid is switched on.

Usually I stick to 100, as it makes a huge difference in fuel consumption. |
Re: New Speed Limit
So......the shoe man has dictated to us all that in order for us to save some money we now have to drive slower!
Some of the biggest poluters on the motoroways are the goods transportation trucks which are already restricted by speed. Who the hell didn't know that driving slower saves fuel? Doesn't the government make more money if we WANT to drive at 120 km/h rather than at 110km/h? Prohibition rather than education eh? Well done shoeman, show the world you think everyone in this country is stupic and badly educated! |
Re: New Speed Limit
Would be a better idea to follow the UK lead and raise road tax on engine size and emissions.
Double the tax rate on 2ltr plus for family cars and treble it on 3 ltr plus. Call the extra a surcharge to go direct to the tax collector and apply only to vehicles not registered for commercial purposes. In this day and age most motors up to 2 ltrs are more than adequate for general domestic purposes and can comfortably cruise all day at the legal speed limit. I wonder if the roads will be any safer or will the extra concentration of traffic at similar speeds cause more mishaps? In any event most of Europe has been moving in this direction for quite a few years with even the Germans now having 120kph restrictions on most of their autobahns and 110kph in some cases. |
