You might find some in the Iceland stores.

They were £4/kg in Gib last week!

That's some mark-up. They were £1.50 per kilo in Sainsburys last week! Was a special offer though, usually £3

They had some special offers at half price but they were in plastic bags and going very sweaty.

The expensive ones were dry and earthy - they taste great.

Incidentally it's easy to grow new potatoes here - we get about three crops a year. If you haven't got much room, buy one of those cheap big black buckets and grown them in there. Takes about 3 months to get a crop.

I've never come across anything to compare with Canarian potatoes, but they seem to be as rare as hens teeth these days.

Wonder if they all go to the well heeled in flash city restaurants now,.. or possibly much further afield.

One of my favourite things is papas alinyás in the Cádiz province, made with new potatoes

papas arrugadas con mojo for me please :)

When really fresh my overall favourite spuds are from Cyprus, as they say in Wales, "bloody lovely"

Yo tambien.
When I first lived in the Canaries I could get a wacking great plateful for 130 pesetas, well under a quid, by the time I left what very few were still available were arms and legs.
Obviously they'd found another market somewhere willing to pay serious money.

Over-rated and poisoned with salt.

OH brought back a sack on the plane a couple of days ago. 25 kilos and not charged anything extra, lol.

Mercadonna!

I buy the small potatoes which make good new potatoes such as MarisPiper or Charlotte - look at the variety on the pack. Keep them dry and eventually they will sprout. Then just plant them and wait until they have flowered and the foliage is dying off and just dig them up.

They keep well in the fridge or in a bucket of sawdust or shredded paper but I doubt they will last long!

It's probably the simplest thing I have ever grown!
