Re: new passport
You should really since your account will use this as a reference. However, if you remember your old passport number you can continue to use it - I did for a couple of years before I realised. Mind you my Spanish bank was being absorbed by Caixa so all the systems were changing anyway.

No I do not think it is a problem, they will use your NIE. Sometimes banks request you to reverify your ID, they can update then.

Re: new passport
Funnily enough. only yesterday I completed a transaction online with Sabadell. All successful, digital signature etc. Received phone call later asking me to take my passport into my local branch. Did it this morning and when I queried at the branch why after I thought I had successfully completed the transaction online, they showed me the photocopy of my old passport and took a photocopy of my current one to update their records.
If it had expired, goodness knows how I would have gone on! Still don't fully understand why, especially as they have my NIE number on file.

Re: new passport
I think is all part of their money laundering/ID check process as against a desire to record a new passport number as most other nations do not change their number. I have never had to update a passport number in any process in 16 years here. But hey as we all know systems and bureaucracy varies!
