Forever is not a term that the medical profession use. Reassessment and re-evaluations are paramount in the management and criterias, certainly with mental illnesses and issues. How the government wish to address the issue of reducing paying out, I would imagine would be to remove a lot of these people off the DLA, by narrowing the field of the mental illness spectrum!.

As for whether or not the OP has a family and a life in Spain, is really of no consequence to the British government. Families move around. But she should be assessed under new guide lines before any decision is made.

There are varying degrees of bi polar - Out of interest my GP in the UK has it, medication keeps it just about under control, but he still has a significant time off work - at his own cost!!

Yes, and I hope you are right. Here in Spain we can well do without the scroungers that have homes in the UK that they rent out, still claim housing benefits, JSA plus all the other stuff that goes with it. They do not inform the DWP of their move to Spain (in my case, of course they know). I do not lie, I do not hide, I have no need to. My claim for DLA is not illegal and if the Tribunal deem it be granted then that will proove I am no "scrounger". They will have all the evidence in black and white in front of them, medical and other.

There are different rates of DLA from low, middle to high depending on the persons individual needs. You do not have to be a complete cabbage.

BTW, what does IMO stand for?

Whilst Spain has an excellent NHS for physical illness I am not sure that it is renown for treatment of mental illness.

I doubt if there is much in the way of support in Spain for the Spanish let alone a Brit.

A freind's son is at this college for the most seriously disabled. There are workshops for training and they sell plants etc. Many are able to find work. These people would be able to receive more help if it were not for all the malingerers in long term sickness for bad backs and stress etc.

What does concern me, altho maybe the OP has family help here??? is that if her health is bad enough to prevent her from holding a job down, how come she is allowed to look after her children without social/government intervention of some sort??

Anyway, its obviously an on going situation and is all purely conjecture ATM. There are new rules and laws being passed on this one as we speak, so who knows??

I have approached my "NHS Doctor" on this very subject. There are specialists here who deal in "mental disorders". Unfortunately, none speak English (and why should they). So I pay privately and see a psychatrist here in Spain on a monthly basis. I could have gone to the "free" psychatrist and explained through an interprator. But I can just about understand my illness let alone trying to get an interprator to relay to a Spanish speaking psychatrist. This can be very dangerous if mis-interprated and the wrong medication and diagnosis can result.

To answer your question. My mother and father have had to upsticks and move to Spain. I also have a full-time carer paid for by my father. I am "allowed" to look after my "own" children because they come first in my life. I have lots of help and understanding people around me.

My ex moved to Spain with our two children 4 years before it was decided that I could move to be with my children and only on the condition that I had a carer. And as I said, I have all the help I need from my parents.

With the new broom that we have in government, I have an inkling that in the not to distant future, the aim will be to ensure that if the government have to pay out benefits to any group of people, that they will do all in their power to make sure that the money is spent in the UK, is stopping child benfit payments to children who live abroad, any benefit where criteria has to be met, of course pensions, which is a right will be excluded.

I am astounded that Spain can be very harsh in regard to looking after the "down on their luck " population, for whatever reason, but the UK has got to stem this outpouring of cash to claimants abroad, if only to appease the British population who will have serious cuts in their services.

I cannot see the British, after having, pay freezes, child benefit frozen and stopped in some case, having any sympathy with people in receipt of benefits whilst living abroad.

So thinking along those lines it would be political suicide for the government not to cut savegly.

You watch too much TV. Bi-polar comes in many forms. Never mock the inflicted as what goes around comes around.

If the DWP felt there was a need for an assessment then they should have sent me for one before my claim reached Tribunal stage. Obviously they came to the conclusion that this was not needed due to my medical evidence that was submitted in my claim. And since moving to Spain they are in receipt of numerous medical reports from my psychatrist and private doctor (whom my father pays for, not the UK tax payer)
