ok, so to not beat about the bush any longer,as all this thermo nuclear power versus a good old a-bomb doesnt really make alot of sense to me........
55m2 apt, one unit wanted to mainly cool/heat living room/kitchen area but to help the bedrooms, was originally an inverter unit, do i get an inverter again at, say €700-800 fitted, or go for a decent non-inverter unit for quite possibly half that ammount? bear in mind the apt is pretty much used throughout the summer by us,family or friends, and in the winter, probably only used at weekends at most (but therefore needng to heat too). answers on a postcard..... For my two-penny-worth. Get an inverter for about €700 fitted. We are very pleased with ours but they do cost more to run than is claimed! |

Re: New Air Con advice
Since your friends/family/tenants managed to wreck the last unit I would get a cheap non inverter unit. There are some cheap ones in the major hypermarkets. I've seen them as low as €200 in Carrefour in the past.
Aircon units are not rocket science - they are just big fridges with a fan instead of a cabinet! The manufacturers like to make them as complicated as possible just so they can sell the more expensive units "because they must be better if they cost that much". I would also haggle on the installation cost as you are just replacing a unit so it should cost a fair bit less than the "cover all" €200 figure that they quote for new installs. |

I should say so. With all the electrics and pipework in place, it shouldn't be too much like hard work. €200 sounds a lot - especially when most qualified trades around here seem to charge €20 / hour.

yeah, i agree - thats where my prolems started with the locl company who installed the original, €200 flat rate installation. i said to them that i was going to replace like for like, so surely it would be cheaper to install? nope, €200 for any nstallation. needless to say, i am not using them this time round...i have seen a company called vial carpenterias who sell cheap units advertised in rtn, they even have a diy installation video on their website! i havent been to their warehouse yet, so maybe thats the next place to go.
I have just fitted 199€ unit from VIAL in the office , it took me about two hours, no special tools required in fact dead easy!!, however the unit is quite small in capacity, and if I were you I would compare the K/Cal ratings of the VIAL units VS the unit you have already got that has gone down. If they are signicantly less on the VIAL unit you wont get the same cooling or heating!! |
