Need a couple of driving lessons....

Hello :o

//can anyone help? I'm moving to Spain soon and need some driving lessons. Not because I can't drive, I have a full driving licence, however, it can be quite nerve racking driving on the "other side" of the road. The dual carriageway that runs along the coast line to Marbella can be quite daunting, well it is to me. So I'm looking for a few lessons, say six or seven, just to give me confidence. Any comments, ideas, contacts, will be most welcome. :o

Oh Polly - you have just 'met' the only people on expats who will not give you practical advice (except on rare occasions when the medication kicks in ;)) but are actually put on this earth to take the P**s and have a jolly good laugh :)

Hi polly and welcome.

The coast road around marbella can be quite scarey if youre not used to it.
But dont worry its really not that bad. I took to it like duck off water. You just have to be aware that a lot of the merges on dont give much chance to accelerate. So if a car pulls on be prepared to break.. and dont expect the passing car (on your left!) to give way to you so you can pull out.
Thats all there is to it.

If you have a car in England and fancy a taster of driving on the right hand side. Then take it to France for the weekend. Driving your own car will give you the experience of driving on the right, taking roundabouts anti-clockwise etc whilst in the familiar surroundings of your own car. That way when you come to spain, and drive on the right, sat in a different car on the other side it wont be like learning everything again.

If you do hate the coast road then you could always take the toll motorway too. Its generally a lot quieter (because it costs a bloody fortune!) but do that a few times and you'll get your confidence up.

You will be suprised that its easier to drive on the other side than you think. I had to think twice when i was back in england last!

Look here Stella, I've told you it's over!!
The judge has told you to keep away from me, the Kids are doing fine. And now theres no empty bottles or needles on the stairs, in the bath, down the back of the sofa, it's ages since they had to go to casualty.
I'll send your Showaddywaddy LPs by courier.
But please don't talk to me again, just move on!!

And don't ever presume on a roundabout (rotunda) as we have had a coach pull out in front of us - scary  and countless cars - easier to react quickly to. Roundabouts to a Spaniard are just an obstacle in the way of their journey. Whatever you learn in Britain - a Spaniard laughs at
