I now the question has been asked before but does anyone have any up to date info

We need to open a bank account in costa del sol in next 3 days simply to pay Internet etc before we leave

We are not residents although were some years ago with my husband having a NIE number which has long been lost

Anyone know a bank that we can simply deposit some money in for our bills (small amount ) without all the hassle of finding old NIE etc

Any info would be greatly appreciated

At the risk of being told otherwise, most banks will open a non-resident account just using passports. Some will insist on proof of income, but not most.

15 minutes with only a passport at any LaCaixa in any town in Spain.

Yes, I'd like to know too, since in the last 30 years history of banking in all of Europe, I am not aware of any bank which has failed and lost account holders funds.

It would not only be a first, but also very, very big news.

To be honest that's not a concern as its only for minor payments for utilities I bank offshore

Nah they won t - don t keep money in Spain whatever you do lol remember the Arab bank that just closed its doors here - all money lost .......

Uk banks guarantee 85 k per person if they go bust same offshore ..... So if you spread your bunce about then you are covered

good idea just to keep utility money in the account...

also the government can take money right out of the account if you don't pay local taxes etc

They can also open the account and look at all your transactions, too. They can easily find out where you shop, what you buy, where you've been, how much money is deposited, where it comes from...

Besides, considering the state of the Euro, it's better not to keep your money in Euros -keep it in a UK bank in Pounds (or dollars), and transfer only what you need to your local (Euro) account.
