N26 Standard Account

Hola,

I am looking for a bog standard bank account and have been on the N26 website looking at their Standard Account.

Does anyone have this account and if so, are you happy with it? Specifically, is it really easy to open, is the APP easy to navigate and how long do you get kept in a queue when telephoning the call centre?

Thanks.

We've been with N26 for around 8 years and are very happy with them. Did have 1 problem when I accidently transferred money to the wrong account for my community fees. Contacted them in english, via their online chat, and they resolved the problem very quickly. I don't use them to withdraw cash but I have a number of DDs for my bills and use them to pay my Spanish taxes.
Very easy to open, all done via your phone but you will need a Spanish address.

Re: N26 Standard Account

I’ve had account for a few years and as I remember very easy to setup (unlike Santander which I aborted). Never used telephone support only online support and generally responsive. One issue I had was getting a certificate of savings interest the first year before the IRPF submission but ok since.

The other is that they aren’t on the list of payment institutions accepted by government for Tasa payment so you can’t pay a Tasa using either the ES IBAN or the card which is the government’s fault for not accepting any card. Bonkers! Collection of tax by AEAT works fine though.

I do use cash withdrawals using card and I’m not charged at all as long as stay within limits.

App works fine in my experience. Savings functionality useful for getting at least some interest on money held in Spain.

Hi Bolton Wanderer,
Thanks for your reply.

I am a Spanish resident so the address won't be a problem. I don't want to use it as a normal current account, more as a kind of virtual piggy bank. I want to be able to transfer a small amount of money into it from my joint account every month and am paying rip-off fees at the bank I use for this at the moment.

It sounds ideal for my purpose.

Gracias.

Hi PoloMarco,
Thank you for your reply.

If it is that good, switching from my current bank seems to be a no-brainer. Normally when I see the phrase 'no fees? I think "Yeah, right!"

Take a look at Openbank, the digital arm of Santander.

App is easy to use and customer service is prompt and efficient and you can use Santander ATMs for FREE cash withdrawals.

N26 are very easy when it comes to account opening and management, and the good thing is that they are a proper bank so your funds are insured up to a certain amount.

Keep in mind that when opening an account it's best to:
- use your NIE
- use your Spanish address (a plastic card will be sent out)
- use a Spanish phone number
- open the account (via the app) whilst in Spain, so when asked to temporarily share your location you will be seen as being in Spain

This will ensure that you are allocated a Spanish IBAN.

I like N26. A few years ago bought a pair of walking boots from a fraudulent online shop. They recovered the money very quickly. I have been with them around 10years.
