yep, I know its boring but.....
I bought a new Thompson 4142 sky digibox on Ebay and had someone bring it out to Spain for me. Now, we can receive quite a lot of channels with our free to air card BUT... NO BBC1,2, or ITV, had 2 chaps in to look at it and they are flumoxed, they cant understand it at all. we plug our old box in and and it works okay??????
any ideas anybody?????? have I been sold a dud un??????

Are your signal strengths / quality the same on both boxes ? maybe the new one has a weaker tuner ....

Unfortunately all the Sky boxes have different tuner sensitivity. Many of them just don't work well in fringe areas. It is fairly universally accepted that the Pace 2600C1 is by far the best box for fringe areas. The next is also a Pace, the DS430N. The 2600C1 is out of production but can be bought on Ebay, usually at a premium. Because of the better performance of the 2600C1 some Ebay sellers label the DS430N as a 2600C1/DS430N (they look identical). I think that perhaps you should resell your Thomson and buy a 2600C1.
