My card ran out in May 2008 and I have still been using it as ID since..... 1 man at a Spanish menu del dia restaurant spotted it, you know the type that you go to the desk and pay, and he just pointed at it, i shrugged and typed in my pin number and that was that!

Neither do I. I know only 1 or 2 extremely wealthy people and only mention numbers when it helps illustrate something - and I've never mentioned any personal ones!

Sadly I think Spains economy will go down the pan big time , consequently everything will suffer including the health service also taxes will rocket , the cost of living for many expats on a UK state pension will be un sustainable so they may well find themselves "going back" if you have a serious illness etc unless you have deep pockets ,burning bridges is not such a good idea , whilst the UK has many faults the economy and infrasture will always be stronger.
If only for selfish reasons I hope I`m wrong!

Spain has natural Resources. England does not. The Spanish economy has greatly improved over even the last year.

The number of registered unemployed in Spain fell for the first time since the summer in December, the labour ministry said yesterday.
The number of jobless was down 10,221 or 0.25 percent from November, its biggest decline for the month of December since 2000 and somewhat unexpected given the Spanish economy’s reliance on tourism. The jobless rate had last dropped in July when many workers found themselves temporary jobs for the busy summer tourist season.
Spain’s secretary of state for employment, Mari Luz Rodriguez, said it was the “best behaviour for employment in the month of December in the last ten years” but she stressed that “we can’t be complacent because there are still over four million people without work”.

One more thing that will benefit Spain, but is bad news for most of us, is that food prices are rocketing in price. The agricultural sector will benefit from this, but most of us will be forking out a lot more money on our weekly shopping.
