Brilliant post. Yeah, renting a one bed could be good. The Marco Polo Spanish phrase book is good. But the camp sites are really supportive places. He could rent there and keep his 5K in the bank for emergancies

UPDATE:
A quick update on what has happened.
My Dad left with a big backpack to Malaga. There he spent most of his retirement in a month, he told me on the phone about 6 weeks ago. He stayed in a campsite.
He has had no phone since he left and i have been unable to contact him. Last contact i got from him was 6 weeks ago, and he said he was makign his way to Granada to live under a fig tree.
I am not sure if he is alive or dead. He will be living on 200 pounds a month now with no phone, no mode of transport or accommodation. And he has not contacted me or anyone in 6 weeks. I am concerned because he mentioned not wanting to come back. This would make sense, since he has not called asking for help or wanting me to visit him over there. I think he wanted it to be a last adventure.
Nothing i can do. Hopefully he is managing somehow.

Lets hope he is safe. £200 a month is just not enough to live on.

Nothing to do other than wait for the phone call from the consulate.

How does he get his £200 per month? I presume this is the military pension you mentioned previously.

Why would the consulate call me?
He gets his money into his bank account. Yes, it is his military pension.
I have not got a good feeling about it to be honest. Which is why i made this post a few months back. A man with poor health, overweight, with very little- moving to South Spain at the height of Summer. All his friends are worried sick, not having heard from him in weeks. Hopefully he is just living out in a campsite working or something.

Sounds worrying. Do you know which town/village he has visited?

Re: My Dad is Obsessed with Moving to Spain (Urgent Advice Needed)
In that case I assume he uses a debit card to draw cash in Spain and in doing so will leave a trail ? Problem is yes I understand you are concerned but he is an adult so his choice. At some point he is going to either simply run out of money or his debit card will expire he will need someway of getting his money? How long exactly has he been gone? £200 per month less banking charges for exchanging money is in my view impossible to live on so he must have some other money?
