A. Murray!
When Mrs. Murray's little boy (You know the one with the personality of a house brick!) eventually gets knocked out at Wimbledon will it mean a change from being Britain's Andy Murray back to being Scotland's Andy Murray?
:D:D:D |

I'm just putting my "Anyone but the Scot" T shirt on.;)

Re: A. Murray!
I doubt he's bitter. I like him and I bet he quite likes the fact that so many of the english don't.

Re: A. Murray!
Tim Henman has already gone on record to say that the whole "anyone but England" was because he and some other bloke were winding Murry up because Scotland had been knocked out of the Euro's... its pathetic really
|
Re: A. Murray!
The Scots say "Anyone but the English" and the English say "Anyone but the Scot". It's all a bit of playful banter - no more than that.
I think the 'personality of a house brick' comment was a bit unfair though... |

Re: A. Murray!
Much of this nonsense began many years ago at a time when Scotland once qualified for the World cup finals and England did not.
All of a sudden Union Jacks went out the window and the Jocks greatly resented any media coverage that even vaguely connected their beloved Bonnie Scotland with the Sassinaks, despite the fact that most English fans still wished them well. Unfortunately for the Scots as I recall, their joy was very short lived when they actually played in the finals, with everything going pear shaped and ending up in total disaster and disgrace both on the pitch and off it. It was mainly as a result of this hostility and Scottish flag waving, that the English fans decided enough was enough and began to insist on their own distinct identity by replacing most of their Union flags with the Red Cross of St George. |

It's often debated whether in a national vote Scotland would choose to go it alone, or remain part of the Great Britain. One thing I am sure of, if England were asked whether they wanted Scotland to remain part of GB, I know what the result would be. I don't have any problem with them going alone, just make it 100% if they do, no half measures. As the English get the least out of the pot of any of the home countries, and contribute the most by far, they couldn't lose.

I suspect it's a bit more complex than that, but I no longer care enough to want them to stay, that's for sure.

Re: A. Murray!
So, Andy Murray, the only one through in three sets ;)
|
Re: A. Murray!
IMHO Andy is a far better role model than some other sports "personalities". I have not seen any photos of him in the tabloid press drunk with some slapper. He gives 100% effort on the court and any genuine tennis fan will appreciate his skill and enjoy watching him play.
I don't care where he was born, he trained in Spain and now has his home in England . Good luck Andy:thumbsup: |

Good luck Andy:thumbsup: But can anyone tell me what channel it's likely to be on on the Spanish TV? |
Re: A. Murray!
I'd be happy for any of these 4 to win, but Murray winning carries the added bonus of annoying lots of people.

I saw some of this game. I don't think Andy bottled it at all - he played as well as he can. The problem is there are normally 2 or 3 world class players around at any time in this kind of sport, and Andy isn't top three material. He's still the best British male player we've had in eons.

Re: A. Murray!
Boo hoo, this means I can safely show my face around Spain then.
His problem was that he was getting frustrated whereas Nadal was cool as ice, and just waiting for Murray to slip up, from what I saw. |

Re: A. Murray!
Andy started off great but fell away. There is no shame in being beaten by the world number 1. Let's hope the final between the new world number 1 and ex number 1 is as entertaining.
