Hi, Just reading this tread , am I right in thinking that when one person reaches retierment age the other ,either husband or wife would get free medical care and free prescriptions.
Thanks Keith

Paying for prescpitions under pension age, can be very pricey, working people who contribute to the SS pay a percentage, but even then it can cost a couple of hundred a month even with the subsidy if you need to take expensive medication.

Thankyou for all the advice given so far much appreciated
Hubby finishes work in the next mth so we are going to take a month over there hire a car and have a good look around.
What are peoples views on the 3 day inspection breaks? Not planning on buying yet but would use the experience for information purposes, introductions etc.
We are going to a Spanish weekend on Sunday near to where we live so hoping to pick info up from there too, Yes I know they are going to try sell me a property but I can put up with that if I get something out of the experience so we will see. We have got the money to buy a property out right at the right price but this isnt what I want to do just yet. I am keeping my options open by renting I then have provisions to be self sufficient without relying on work over there then once I have rented my house out in the UK that will pay for our rent over in Spain this is the plan thus forth.

I would never go on an inspection break. They are hard sellers and you get very little time to actually see the area.

have never been on an organised inspection break - but I have heard dreadful horror stories where people have been left accomodation & flight-less if they won't sign on the dotted line

when we came out looking at property we came out as a fact finding trip for a week and arranged to see properties from several agents, so less hard sell.

We have been to Masa information morning today and have decided to do the information 4 day tour. Flights, Masa hotel breakfast lunch and evening meal included, all transfers, time to spend in chosen areas etc £50 each. They have promised no hard sell !!!!! I am very good at saying no Thankyou if need be. I feel this for us is the way to go we are going to get taken around diff areas rather than initially stumbling around our selves It will give us an initial insight as to the places we may want to set up roots. We are still going to do the mth there on our own too. Anyone any advice on MASA ? Thankyou in advance for any replies.

Look but don't buy.. They WILL do the hard sell unless they have changed since we lived in Spain.

The way the big companies sell is to keep tracks on you when in Spain, you will not be left alone.

The method is you will be out with them if not viewing properties then socialising, that way you will see what they want you to see, and speak to who they want you to ie you will not come into contact with the duped and disgruntled, or the business owners who are about to pack it in after starting in an up and coming area, which failed to materialise.

If they are showing you yet unsold properties with the promise that they will soon be occupied, take it with a pinch of salt.

Pickings are thin on the ground for this type of builders, once "inspection trips"were in evidence everywhere, their vehicles were once seen everywhere, now they are a rarity

They will be trying harder than ever to secure a sale.

MASA has a bad reputation, do a google. All the inspection trips are rubbish, they will only show you what they want to show you.

Looks like you should be looking into private insurance to provide medical cover. Since husband is only 57 that's quite a few years of paying premiums.

Has you husband taken early retirement?

Re: Moving to Spain lots of advise needed

I wish you well in your move although it sounds like maybe you are moving too fast when you say husband has given in his notice and yet you have no idea on which area of Spain you want to move to.

For jobs there are very few right now so you don't say which skills you have, this site is quite good: http://www.jobsinspain.info

I wouldn't be in a rush to sell up completely and move out, perhaps a few holidays first over a longer period of time?
