Moving to spain
 

Hi we are Ben and Kaz and we're thinking of spending a year living in Spain. We have been looking at the area around fortuna murcia.
We would need to work part time to help fund living costs.
We have been looking at buying a caravan to begin with at camping El castillejo Park.
Does anyone here have any knowledge of the park if so we'd love to hear from you.

You do realise that you cannot just move to Spain without conditions attached!! You will be required to sign on the foreigners register after 90 days. You will need an NIE number, have private healthcare and prove you have enough regular income so you are not a burden on the state. You will be required to pay taxes here after 183 days. You will also be required to fill in Modelo 720 and declare all your worldwide income.

It would be wise to do a lot more research into those area's I've mentioned.

Tebo forgot to mention that gaining employment is very difficult for Spanish nationals so will be even harder for foreigners unless they are fluent in Spanish and have a much needed skill.

Alternatively you can just move there , do none of these things and leave after a year. I wonder how many of the alleged 730,000 Romanians who are said to live in Spain, have done any of this.?

And even harder to get a job that pays a decent wage. It would be a lot easier to save the money in the UK and live off the savings in Spain.

But look how those Romanians have to live.....!!

Most have to earn money by illegal means such as selling disgusting "Cocktails" on the beaches. Most of the "Pea men" are from Romania as reported in the local papers every week. Pickpockets, street begging, prostitution etc, etc....(Other nationalities may also be doing the same)

I wouldn't give your advice to anyone who would like a good experience of Spain.

If you get everything in order it it easily achieved to be legal.

The only downside is the job market. As the unemployed rate is still the highest within the EU everybody and their relatives are looking for work.

Save enough money while you are in the UK to pay the way for a nice long holiday and have a look a the job situation when you are here.

Thanks for all your comments most helpful. Steve of course we know we just can't move there without the right documents of we want to be legal. On the job front we would only be looking at occasionally employment not fully time.
Does anyone have experience of living in the murcia area we looked at the murcia as it close to the national park and within easy driving distance to the coast.

does "occasionally employment" translate as "working cash in hand"? If so,Laddie,think again as employers of legal businesses who pay all their taxes,might just not entertain your job application.

Best to assume you wont get work of any kind in Spain so take sufficient savings , if you do find work treat it as a precious bonus.

Ben,All the above is fair advice. Even if you get some form of employment, you will be up against the local Spanish in Murcia or Granada, so you may find it abruptly ended if its ' cash in hand'. It may, in Murcia, involve fruit and veg picking. Northern Europeans are just NOT cut out for that.
Best of luck, plan for the worse as regards income, but hope for the best.

Thanks again for all the comments and no I wouldn't be trying to for cash in hand never have and never would.
we would want to be legal and above broad, we're just looking at options so thought up to a years trial stay before moving full time

If it's just a year and you need some extra cash your best bet is always to save that money in the UK. The money you'd be getting from some part time job in Spain for a year, could be made in the UK in a few months.

I live near this area. Short term jobs either involve fruit picking or fruit packing the demand for these is high as its very seasonal and usually they open a list that is filled almost immediately about 4 weeks in advance and then they start with people with experience for the better contracted jobs after that the pay becomes less and there are even some big companies who pay cash in hand or expect you to sign as autonomo so that they do not have to pay any of the contributions putting the emphasis on you so that is not deemed cash in hand but self employment. There are a few agricultural staff agencies that are reputable, however a hard winter or bad crop results in much less employment. Another option that some people do is pop back to the UK to work for a few weeks to top up their cash. I did notice in Murcia city last week a few restaurants advertising for part time staff but that would depend on your Spanish level.
