Moving to Spain

Hello.. I am considering moving to Spain in the autumn. I am semi-retired, and have pensions. I also work for myself, with a small mail order concern, dealing internationally. Therefore I do no think the job situation will directly affect me. So long as the post office works, and Paypal too !!!!

I hope to go to Valencia, and initially i will rent out my UK home, and likewise rent in Spain. Any members have good pieces of advice to pass on. I hope to have a more relaxing life than the turmoil of the UK, and certainly better climate. I cannot go through another winter here in east Anglia.

Finally, can any one receommend a nice area around Valencia to reside.

Best wishes

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Been here almost 7 years now and never had any problem with the post and find that things sent from here are quicker than the other way around. Before people can recommend an area they would need to know your likes and dislikes regarding things such as beaches, mountains, town, country, nightlife, brits or no brits, noise etc.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Re: Moving to Spain

Thanks for the replies... I am age 65, and I am married to a Ukrainian lady, who will settle with me eventually. We like a reasonably quiet area, not too far from the Med, so we can enjoy the beach life a little. We have a Persian boy cat, so we want somewhere to live that will be safe for him too. Apart from my mail order role, I am also a photographer, and I specialise in military subjects (I have been cleared by the Spanish Air Force on occasions - they are great to work with).

I have selected Valencia area, as it is convenient to Albacete Air Base, as well as an airport with direct links to Ukraine, so my wife can return home when needed.

Best wishes

Right, Kodackman, Spain will work for you. I would not confine my search for a living area to any one place. But, write out a list of "musts" and "desires" - Don't forget to add it "must nots" and "mights" and you have a place in which to start.

Easy access to an airport is a "must." Access to level walks probably is also a "must." Apartment/Duplex/House rental (two bedrooms central location) of not more than €500 per month is a "must" - Add in electricity charges also. Now you have a starting situation. Initially, I would not commit myself to more than three months rental contract. Two months is probably enough. It is easy to extend contracts later and saves loss of deposit if you break agreement.

Use your head.
