You really could not maintain any kind of lifestyle on that kind of money And there are way too many qualified Spanish nurses which is way many go to look for work in the UK Your husband would have to pay 265 euros per month social security and then IVA and Income taxon all sales. So he would need a very good turnover for his online business! If you will have 4 kids and thinking of living in the South of Spain then you need to net at least 2,000 euros per month to not be living on the poverty line. Closer to 3,000 would give you a better quality of life As a reference, we live in a modest flat with 2 kids and spend around 3k each month |

Spain has about half the number of nurses per capita than the rest of the EU - certainly made worse by the number going to work outside Spain. |

Yes, and it has got worse since then, particularly in Málaga.

Re: Moving to Spain with 4 children!
HiThere has been lots of good advice so far.
some suggestions bar work is few and far between and many people looking for work everywhere and is very seasonal and often cash in hand Suggest you get your nursing qualifications officially translated and signed (notarised) by the Spanish Embassy in UK - it will be quicker than once you are in Spain. A friend of mine who is also a staff nurse had to wait 12 months for an official translation of nursing quals in Spain As your husband intends to register his business in Spain you will have no problems registering with health care. Without paying into the system here in Spain you will not qualify for state health care As for schools Spanish schools they are generally very good and IMO best is total immersion and private lessons - suggest you and your private tutor works with the school. Schools are free and start a 6 yrs old although from 3 you do get free pre school Start private lessons now for all of you in UK Please don't rely on the ex pat bi-lingual children to teach your children Spanish in the playground etc. it doesn't work very well Ex pats can be good but also a distraction as the kids will simply default to speaking English, suggest you join a Spanish club (sports such as football, gymnastics, dance, swimming etc.) and there are many and all reasonable prices Good luck and keep researching |

Malaga residents waiting longer for hospital surgery | Spain News Same all over unfortunately. Somehow the cut backs in spending hit the services we all need. Those that we do not. Never seemed to have been hit. |
Re: Moving to Spain with 4 children!
Spanish tax is a Freakin' nightmare! Far higher than in the UK, allowances are non existent. Do research on tax levels - you will be unpleasantly surprised, although 4 kids gives you benefits.

Hi everyone. My husband and I are considering moving to Spain with the next year. We have only just started researching the idea so I apologise for my naieveity (spelling is not my strong point) lol. Anyway I'm 29 years old and have just been diagnosed with osteoarthritis and feel the warm weather will do me good.....among lots of other reasons for the move. We have 3 children aged 7,5 and 2, and are expecting no4 in June so wouldn't want to move before baby arrives.
I guess my first question is where..... We would want to be around as many expats as possible so the language isn't such a shock to the children. We would be looking at a long term rent. Also schools are a massive issue as children don't speek Spanish. Any advice on where to start would be great. Thanx :) Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderator who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are usually friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the issues of living in Spain. I hope that you enjoy your time participating in the forums. Please let me know if you need any further help. Rosemary |
