Moving to Spain
 

we are 2 50+ who have decided that the children can now take care of themselves and we're off to Spain to get away from the Welsh snow. We want to move to Valencia Region - so does anyone know of any pitfalls we should avoid and can anyone recommend an estate agent? Our needs are little (unless we win the Lottery) we want a rural property but not on top of a mountain, preferably with a roof, 4 walls and water and electricity. Jokes aside - we would appreciate any advice from those who have done this before us!

Does anyone have Newfoundland dogs - when we move we will be bringing our 2 with us - are there any problems with the heat and are there any clubs that do "water trials" etc?

You are in the same position as us. We have turned 50 and have bought a place in Oliva which is about 75 kms south of Valencia. Its a beautiful area, fantastic beaches, mountains, national parks, and its a bit more Spanish than the areas further South.
Just take care of what you buy, ensure you use a solicitor who is independent of your agent or builder, just the same as you would in the UK really.

I'll pm you with the agent we used who was very friendly, helpful and not pushy at all. He found us exactly what we wanted and saw us through the whole process.

We're coming over to Spain later this month for a look around at properties in Alcoy/Xativa/Ontenient/Gandia ete etc. Any information about these areas would be helpful. The only info we have is from estate agents which can, we know, be a little dubious if not sometimes untrue! Have seen on 2 websites the same property with a difference in price of 17,000E. Makes you wonder?

Yes for sure that sums up a lot of estate agents in Spain.
Gandia is a very nice place, but quite busy. If you get the chance have a look in Oliva, and at Tossal Gros which is in the hills overlooking Oliva. Its only 10 mins from Gandia.
Further South is Denia, which is worth a look. Theres a lot of real estate there, but its quite busy in the summer months whereas Oliva is more of an agricultural town and less touristy. There are two halves to Oliva, disected by the main road. Away from the coast is the old town, and nearer the coast is the market area, paseo and more modern area. Go down to Oliva Playa as weel, there are a lot of properties down there.
Its a buyers market at the moment ... don't get pushed into anything you don't feel comfortable with

If you can find a local and befriend him, you might be able to buy property at a somewhat smaller than the estate agent price, they (the estate agent) put a lot on top of the asking price and usually you, the buyer will pay this fee not the seller, I have known it to be as much as 20.000euro's usually about 10.000

hi, we have just moved out to Barxeta, 15 mins from Xativa, it is a typical spanish village and we love it. we bought our villa a year ago and used www.spanishfullmonty.com . we found the owner of spanish full monty (rose) to be most helpful and she knew just what we wanted. if you need any info on our area then please em me,pat

many thanks - we have looked at the site and asked for a couple of viewings. This is not a site we had come across before (even with hours of surfing). Again many thanks - we'll let you how we get on.

Just be aware that Valencia has a land grab back policy so becareful where you buy.

It has been addressed by Brussels and they ruled against it, however from my understanding Valencia Government were going to ignore it. When have the Spanish ever followed the rules? I would just still be wary thats all, too much money at stake not to be.

We're in our 30's with two small children a 3 yr old and a 15 month old.....we have been looking at the same regions via the spanish full monty website which is fab !!

We are hoping to find a property in these area's so if you have any further info.....would you mind sharing it !!!

Costa collida or Almeria?

My wife and I are actively looking for place to live full-time and have travelled quite a bit around several costas in search of a nice place to chill and maybe do some part time work. Has any you guys got any comments on either of these costas? we are visiting them in August! Mac and Pollie
