Default Moving to Murcia/Ciudad Quesada area October 2012-needing lots of advice please!

Hello, I have just come across this website whilst searching for forums in Spain, and thought I would give it a try. My partner and I would like to move to the Murcia/ciudad quesada later this year. I am 46 and my partner has just retired. We have been together 28 years and really would like some advice on moving to Spain.
We want to long term rent in these areas, preferably a villa so family can visit so need some good websites or agents that we could contact.

We also need to know about medical insurance as obviously we will need it. I am right in thinking my partner will get state health cover due to him being over 65? Or will he need private too? What will I have to pay roughly and anyone know of good reputable companies to get this from?

Also, if we took our car over, is it easier than buying over in Spain or are we better off selling it in the uk and buying a scooter to get about?

Can someone also point out how to register for residency visas etc and any links regarding opening a Spanish bank account. Is it easier to keep our money in uk accounts and transfer to the Spanish account as and when we need too?

I know this is a lot of info and I don't have loads of time to search the Internet, so I am hoping someone who has, will help me out.

Thank you in advance and look forward to hearing from you all.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Ciudad Quesada is actually in Alicante region not Murcia. It is a huge urbanisation where many nationalities live. Properties are plentiful to buy and rent. Most are of a good standard and you will be spoilt for choice. We prefer the far side of Quesada close to the golf course. Rojales in a small spanish town close by where you will find excellent shopping, cafes, pubs, clubs and restaurants.

QSD are the largest and most professional agent in the area. Unfortunately they are the most expensive. I appreciate you are renting rather than buying, but nothing to stop you requesting their property pack and dvd> http://www.qsdgroup.co.uk/home.asp
There are so many rental agents to choose from in the area. I would suggest you make a short term holiday rental and look around before committing to a long term rental.

I would recommend
[email protected]. He will be able to help find you a property and advise you regarding residency and all the other things you will need but have not yet thought of. You do not need a visa.

I would not recommend
vincent-realestate.com

For banking, I have tried a few and find Barclays.es to be the best in this local. Sven is the manager > https://www.barclays.es/publico/cont...jsp?lang=en_UK

I would suggest you bring your car and trade it for a spanish vehicle after you settle in. Just like in UK, you will find some honest dealers and many not so honest. FYI, there are two scooter dealers in Rojales. There is a brit motorcycle shop, but not one I would recommend.

FYI: One of our friends has recently signed a rental agreement for a villa in Ciudad Quesada with CAM bank. They have an option to buy at an agreed price and if they do so their rental payments will be deducted from the purchase price.

If your partner is in receipt of a state pension he is entitled to healthcare for himself and for you as a dependent. Otherwise you will both need private health insurance. You will need to get SI forms from Newcastle.

Personally I wouldn't bring a UK car to Spain and then trade it in when you settle. There are too many complications, would you matriculate it to Spanish plates for the time you own it? would you drive it around illegally once the tax/MOT had run out? the price you will receive on a RHD car (if you can trade it in) will be dire. Far better to either come over in a LHD car purchased in the UK and then matriculate it to Spanish plates (plenty of LHD specialists in the UK) or purchase a car once you hit Spain (second hand cars are more expensive here though).... Just my opinion.......
