Moving to GC
 

Hello all, just joined the site and wanted to say hi..

Im Keyz, 39 yrs old and currently in the UK.

I am going to be moving to Gran Canaria soon and wondered if anyone had any info for me in what to expect regarding jobs and a few other things.

Firstly
Obtaining an NIE; I have read so much about people doing it online before going but it costs quite a bit of money for someone to do it for you and if you use the embassy in London you have to be buying property apparently. Others have said it is easy to do once you're there. Some slightly contradicting stories so not sure what to make of it.

Jobs
I know from reading a lot online jobs are hard to come by but again, Ive heard its easy to get a job in tourist areas. Is this true?

Lastly, would I be able to rent privately rather than pay agency fees?

Jobs in tourist areas are likely to be the very low paid waiter/waitress, bartender, cleaner type jobs, and they may be 'cash in hand' rather than contract, meaning you need to pay for private healthcare. Decent paid jobs are much harder to get

NIE is simple to get once there, although there may be a lot of queuing, which is why many people use a gestor to arrange it for them

Yes you can rent privately, but remember a let is only legal if there is a contract, in Spanish.

Do you happen to know how much private healthcare is?
I am basing everything around the period of one year as that's how long im going for. Should I be happy after that and feel settled I may stay longer or even forever.

Also, what is a gestor?
