Moving to Costa Del Sol

My wife and I are looking at moving to Spain in a few years time, when our daughter leaves school here. We are in the early stages of looking, and the Costa Del Sol looks favourite, although we are still very open to ideas !
I currently work for myself designing and installing high tech security systems, including alarms, CCTV and video entry phones etc. About 50% of my work is actually sub contracting to other companies and I wondered if there is much call for that type of thing out there ? Are there Spanish or English companies that do sub contract work out to the English ?
We are looking at moving to a village location that is no more than 30 mins from the coast. Can anyone recommend a friendly location that fits that bill ?
We will be coming out on several "scouting" trips over the next year, so any advice on areas and work situations would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks for your time

We went over in July and visited a nice village Villanueva del Trabajo and there is also Villaneuva del Rosario. They are off the main motorway to Granada from Malaga just under an hour from the coast depending on traffic. Property prices are not too bad there. People were friendly as they are in most Spanish villages and there were a few British there even a bar run by British but most of the customers were Spanish. Your best bet is to get out there and drive around and find where you like. One thing we did find though is estate agents do not like you window shopping a lot will not even show you a property unless you have a deposit, so when we go next when we can proceed we will have a deposit ready and a solicitor.

Good Luck

Helen

Hi

First of all good luck with your plans....... there are companies for everything in Spain I would suggest you look around also get the english papers like The Sur or Town Cryer and mags like Inland magazine and Trading Post you can also search the web but make sure you do your research there are cowboys out here. As for areas or towns then Coin is up and coming with a new airport planned (Light aircraft) and seems to be growing each week, also only about 30 mins from Fuengirola, lots of Brits in Alhaurin el Grande and Cartama ......with Cartama please check before you buy property lots of illegal builds :scared:

There are lots of illegally built properties in the whole of the Guadalhorce Valley, not just Cártama.

Hi,
Dont quote me on this but i think that light aircraft runway is not the case i thought it was gonna be a cargo place, not sure but that is what i was told :)
Also coin is having a lot of cash spent on it, no access to cars in certain areas and lovely palm trees, i have also heard talks of a hospital not sure if that is true or what but it is a lovely place and up and coming :)
Houses prices are very expensive though :)

If you want traditional Spain (but only probably for the next twenty years at the most), try the Eastern Alpujarras (Granada province) and the Almerian Alpujarras. (Both around an hour (give or take ten minutes) from the coast).

Hi,
We were told by some friends of ours, i will ask her where she got the info from.

Also i was told by another friend who works in the centre of coin.

Apparently it will be on the outskirts, i will find out and then i will let you know where or when.

I could have it wrong or the ppl who told me could of been misled, so i will keep you posted. :)

I was told (rumours again ) that the airport was going to be built La Trocha area, as for the hospital there is one being built near to the A357 which heads towards Malaga. I disagree about house prices but again depends on what you want and location, the apartments near the feria are reasonable and my house is very cheap :D

The new road (continuation of Coin-Marbella road) is being built which is in La Trocha area and will meet up with the Malaga road having skirted around Villafranco so I don't think they'll fit an airport in as well!!
The hospital is going ahead but is to be more on the lines of Stoke Mandeville for respite care for major injury accident victims and not, as I understand, an emergency hospital, but I could be wrong - it has been known!!
I tend to agree about the house prices being high, in particular fincas, villas etc in the campo with a bit of land which is understandable as this is the 'commuter belt' for Malaga and Marbella. Having said that town houses/apartments are on a par with other similar towns.
