Moving to Benidorm in my 20s

Hi everyone, I’ve been doing some research on this myself, but would really like and appreciate some extra advice. I’m currently 18 in college studying horsemanship which will be for two years, and I possibly could be doing another year of animal care. I’ve been looking into moving to Benidorm for awhile, it would be a dream home to me. However the move would not be easy because I have three cats, language barriers and of course the low wages. I’m from Ireland so moving within the EU shouldn’t me too much of a problem. I have been learning Spanish for the past few months and will be continuing to learn it for the next two to three years before possibly moving there, and I have a decent set of savings to support me for at least a year- a year1/2 rent out there. I would be looking for a relatively decent size place to make sure my cats have sufficient room. But I would obviously like to make myself enough to land myself back home after a year or two.. After several vaccinations to Spain I feel Benidorm is a safe place to live for a female my age, but obviously if you have any opinions on this let me know? I’m of course a bit concerned with the wages. I know bar work can sometimes pay only 4 euro an hour, so would there be any jobs available to be with my degree and having relatively little Spanish? Please know I’m not looking into this move as an “extended” holiday, I’ve always had a genuine interest in Spain and I have no interest in drinking etc. My cats are lead trained and I think it would be nice to sit out sometimes with them, but would people have problems with this out there? Thanks so much for reading, I appreciate any insight and opinions
And of course any other place suggestions!

We're around 10 minutes away from Lloret which would also be similar to Benidorm, Salou etc. and like most package holiday places, it's had it's ups and downs over the years. The only difference is that it's less built up, you have better DJ's and fewer Brits, so generally better maintained and the Major has a clear vision to get away from drinking tourism (similar to Mallorca). The focus is now more sports tourism Sports tourism – Lloret de Mar Turisme but you still have night life and of course Barcelona not too far away. Otherwise you could also consider other places around Valencia, Malaga etc. But please just make sure the cats have a decent place, as moving cats can be stressful for the animals.

Tnere is/was an hourly bus service from Albir/Altea to Benidorm itself, and it stopped on the sea front, so was a simple way to get there, there is also a very good health clinic in Albir.

You're still young and at least have savings. I'm based in Ireland myself and also live in the countryside, but we have a small place in Spain.

I agree moving with the cats will be stressful, I’ve only been looking at large apartments with a balcony that I can make cat proof or a garden for them and somewhere I can sit out with them as they are lead trained. They’re my main priority 😊 When the time comes I’ll also be driving there as no matter what great reviews pet transport companies have, I want to mind them myself.
Thanks for the places you’ve mentioned, I’ll definitely look into them! It’s good the mayor wants to get away from drinking tourism.

That sounds great, when I was staying in Benidorm last I used to take the train to Altea, which I couldn’t get over how cheap it was

Benidorm is full on and mad in the summer, you'll love it i only like it for a day
(old fart) there are lots of places just out side benidorm which would be great for you and cats and a short good bus ride away fantastic.Just a thought for you i live in the jalon valley just 45 minuets to the centre of benidorm, here there are a few horse riding centres, maybe of interest and maybe a job?We are in the campo but not far from the coast and many smaller towns and villages ,Valencia benidorm alicante not to far away. And hopefuly the coastal tram will be running soon from alicante to denia.I hope with your research and dreams you make it to spain while you are young it's wonderful here. The best person for you to talk with is tebo53 who has lived in benidorm for a while and has always posted well on BE.Our very best wishes for you and your dream hope yo see you soon if we can be of any help please do not hesitate

Youre great for bringing your 7 cats with you! I bet that must have been fun and stressful 😂

Petrol is around 1.30 euro/litre, diesel around 1.25 euro.
