The car issue is a right pain.We have spent more on car issues than anything else here and are still going thru it. Whatever you choose it will cost big time.

With regards to your animals I def think its better for them to go by car even though it takes longer.Animals cannot cope well with the noises etc on a plane especially cats.

Our cat has been on a plane and has also travelled back to spain by car.She obviously didnt like the car either but its the better option and you do get pet friendly hotels in spain so you can stop over and rest.It is such a long way to travel in one go with animals to worry about especially when its hot. They get so dehydrated. My daughter had a syringe to squirt water right into her mouth.

But shes here now and loving it chasing the lizards.Shes happy.

Good luck.

Thanks. We actually started thinking about using a caravan last night and did some research. It wouldn't cost much more to take it on the ferry to Spain and we could us it for a stop on our way through spain. Also we could load it with essentials that we can use while we wait for our furniture. My wife is talking to someone about a part furnished today so we will see how that goes!

We thought about the greatfun we would have in a camper van but we need to get our MPV down there so the options will be a caravan or if not then maybe a box trailer so that we have less in the car.

Costwise it maybe be cheaper to sell you MPV in the UK, buy a cheap campervan and then buy another MPV on Spanish plates when you get here????

Jo xxx

Be very careful with caravans and campers in Spain now, owners parked illegally are going to finance the councils coffers that have deminished since the building licence slowdown.

be aware that you cant transfer a camper to spanish plates if it has adoor on the uk passenger side.

you´d be better coming down in an estate ish car and sell the camper back there. you might be lucky and sell it here, to someone going back.

Okay we will keep the MPV and come down in that. Will think about the caravan thing; I still like the idea of being able to take some things down and have the possibility of having a sleep in it on the way down.

well, nowadays the employment situation in Spain is not good enough, the employment rate is the highest of the spanish history... so, you have to keep in mind this issue, because you could be several problems due to find a job.

Good luck

We drove our dogs as we felt far less stressfull as both were quite elderly, remember you need to get either export papers or passports for the animals, they need all vacs and also rabies up to date, contact DEFRA for details:)

I think then if we have a removal co. bring everything down we will take a ferry from Portsmouth to Santander/Bilbao and drive through Spain.

We will have a dog and cat so any experience of getting pets down would be helpful.

Would we fly them down separately or drive them down with us?

We used www.petcouriers.com They were excellant. we have recomended them to other people and they all have been very happy. They are picked up at your door in the UK and taken to your door in Spain.
