Move to Mojaca

Hi everyone, Myself and my wife are in the process of selling up and moving to Mojaca. We are both 57 and will be retiring on a mix of company pensions and draw down from private pensions.

We are looking to make Expat friends with anyone in or around Mojaca to ask questions, get advise and build up our friend network, we have a friend that lives 15 mins inland at Turre so that's a help.

If there is anyone willing to help, we would be grateful,

regards

Owen and Carol :fingerscrossed:

Hi and a warm welcome to the Spanish forum on BE. Myself and Fred James are the moderators for the Spanish forums whilst myself and BEVS moderate Europe. Please read the Site Rules Site Rules | British Expatriate Community adhere to them so that the site runs smoothly. Moderators are there to ensure that the rules of BE are maintained. This is so that members gain the information that they are looking for and find their experiences on the forums to be friendly and worthwhile.

Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderator who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are usually friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge about the issues of living in Spain. I hope that you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Thanks Rosemary, we will abide by the rules. We used this site when we went to Australia some years ago and found it a great source of information.

Regards,
Owen

Re: Move to Mojaca

HI Carol and Owen, I reckon if there's one place you won't have problems in settling is Mojacar. There is an expat community there most of which are from the UK. A sprinkling of Irish and good weather throughout the year will make your adventure all the more joyful. Rightly, you are tredding carefully and I would advise you rent a property in the off season before you even think of buying. Property is generally cheaper than in Costa del Sol and the temps are drier and warmer.

You have friends in nearby Turré and I'm sure you'll get quality advice from them. If I were you, I wouldn't be inclined to sell-up in the UK. Always leave ample room for a dignified retreat if necessary. Nothing wrong with a dignified retreat. Many of us living in Mojacar know of many undignified retreats and believe me they are not a good place to be.

Ask yourself a few questions:- (i) Would our life savings expire if we purchased a Spanish property?
(ii) Would family commitments in the UK override what's on offer in Spain?
(iii) July/August can be unbearably hot, are you able for it?
(iv) Are you prepared to learn some Spanish?
(v) Do you wish to rent out your property when not using it?
(vi) If property prices crash again, can you ride it out?
(vii) An effort is needed to change your outlook on life that Spain brings. Mojacar makes you relax and take things easy. Can you endure the change to a slower existence? The Spaniards won't change for you; can you change for them?

Best of Luck and make it work.

Just apropos of nothing really - i really liked mohaka [ok, mojacar] i used to have a relative who had a vast villa in the countryside there [he’s dead now so its ok to admit Tiny Rowlands accountant, living exceedingly well off the sins of his master]

The scirocco winds are a bit tedious - [hot dry oven door stuff straight from the desert] but apart from that, the dry air, good food, beaches and countryside are very appealing.

I might have lived there - ultimately i decided.i wanted it a bit lusher - greener - gardening friendly - hence my current location.
