So driving an illegal vehicle is OK......what about drink driving? I advocate operating a safe machine in a safe manner and that is all. This has to be safer (if you don't know the meaning of this word then please look it up before replying) than those who drive in a reckless and downright dangerous manner. Surely THAT much is obvious no? Legal does not state nor imply safe. |

Dress it up all you like, its illegal, and being illegal IS NOT HARD, IT IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, it is as simple as providing all the minimum legal requirements for operating a motorised vehicle in the country you live in!!!! |

[QUOTE=rugbymatt;6401943]but it is a law, and it means that IF you hit someone, their insurance company will screw them over because there was no insurance.......

Not as simple as you might think Matt. Have you EVER broken a speed limit, if you have then pot-black-kettle springs to mind. Have you EVER driven home from the pub knowing you might be over the limit (which incidentally is stricter in Spain than in the UK). Have you EVER used your mobile phone when driving? Have you ever heard of an insurance company not paying out because someone was breaking a speed limit? I assume you are aware how many Spanish nationals are driving around without licences and without any form of insurance. You are mathematically far more at risk from them from a tourist on UK plates in Spain or any other country. If your papers are all in order, vehicle taxed, tested and insured in country of registration your insurance company will pay out unless thay have some basis on which to challenge you. It is quite a realistic scenario that brits come over to the continent with a camper van or towing their caravan for more than 6 months a year, touring around with no fixed abode. What about them? The resident brits on the CdS are, in my opinion, just asking for trouble with UK plated vehicles untaxed and without valid MoT for year upon year. Never, and lets face it, we are talking about something totally different, we are talking about actively going out, every single time and breaking the law with intent to break the law. and the argument of "there are loads doing it" is one a 12 year old would use. |

So in your eyes Matt, there are important laws and less important laws.
And the statistics keep on pointing to speed as the major contributor to accidents and injury. IF you creep over the speed limit, then it is generally unintentional, I live in a very rural area and stick religiously to the limits, they are there for a reason. the stretch from that to getting on an illegal bike/car is a long one. Its up to you, do as you wish, but don't be too surprised if I get sanctimonious about it, and don't post it on an open forum where newbies will read it pillock. |

Not guilty, read thread. Your words exactly as you posted. Your own inconsistency.
That doesnt get anybody off a speeding fine, nor make speeding less risky. If anything, the unintentional increase in speed shows you are not paying enough attention to your driving. Easy done but cruise control is wonderful in that respect and is one reason I have a licence free of any points or penalties. Why, thank you for granting your permission young sir. you know you are in the wrong and try, unsuccessfully, to use sarcasm as a weapon . |

I know I am consistent with my arguments and consistently trying to follow the topic of the thread
