Motorbike insurance in Spain?

Wonder if anyone can help me out here?

I'm trying to get one of our (5!) motorbikes registered here in Spain so we can ride it around. It's currently UK registered and insured, but we are quite happy to get it all imported and on spanish plates if neccessary (none of that pesky right-hand, left-hand drive stuff with a motorbike!).

Problem is - the insurance quotes we've been getting are outrageous! It's not a fancy motorbike, a few years old and we are after something basic like 'third-party, fire and theft'. The cheapest we've been quoted is about 900 euros and that's TPO! They didn't even ask the value of the bike, which is a bit strange.

Does anyone have any experience with getting a motorbike insuranced here in Spain - uk plates or spanish plates? Can anyone recommend a decent insurance company where we might be able to drag our no-claims bonuses along with us?

Oh, and LineaDirecta won't work for us - apparently they will insure british people with cars, but not motorbikes (!) even though they claim to insure 40 percent of all motorbikes in spain! Something to do with the gov't not allowing them to use passport numbers or NIE numbers, only the numbers that spanish citizens have.

EU? What EU, eh?

Thanks in advance!
