That's why I don't use a main dealer. They welcome you with a smile, usher you into the plush waiting area, then quote you inflated prices for unnecessary jobs.
Last time I took the car in for a recall they gave it the once over and said it needed over £1000 worth of work.
Having done some vehicle restoration and built my own sports car in the past I have some mechanical knowledge, but anyway I took the check sheet with the list of 'faults' to my independent dealer. He didn't stop laughing for about ten minutes.
