Nah, nice parks and a surfeit of airports maybe, but Madrid is far better value (and more exciting) for those of us who aren't multi-millionaires... Tops in football too - more European Cups won by Real Madrid than all of the London clubs combined!

Of course it's London, the city is fantastic and I would not live anywhere else. I do appreciate I am biased being a born and bred Cockney.
What I thought was interesting that it is also expected to be the top city in 10 years time. That surprises me as the balance of power moves east.

London probably is the most "impressive" city in the world

It is a great city that works. And it has all the cr*ppy places where the rich like to eat and be seen.

Its also a very livable city, as long as you are young or a millionnaire

If you are someone who needs to work for a living and would like to see their family during the week, then there are 1000s of better places, especially given the poor quality of state schools and very high public school fees

Obviously the reason why so many Spanish have chosen to move there for work recently then.

There are plenty of jobs in London, no doubt about that, although opportunities arent as good as a few years ago, especially around the year 2000

Dont think they are worried too much about family life yet. You'll find almost all of them are young (in Spanish terms) and single

I enjoy London for a weekend visit, theatre and a late supper sort of thing but couldn't live there these days, its all a bit tacky and grubby there now.

It all depends what you are looking for, London, New York ...... all way too big for me.

I loved living in London when I was young and ambitious but I wouldn't want to live there now. Thing is the super rich who own homes there only spend a few days per week there, they are off to their country estates by Thursday:)

There are lots of Spaniards, hear more Spanish spoken than I did on the CDS:lol:

I love N. York and Miami too.

I understand where you're coming from, and central London suffers from enormous numbers of tourists, but there are lots of different areas with differing characters. Richmond, Clapham or Islington for example. There are plenty of smaller theatres not in the Soho/Covent Garden area, so if you live in London there is no need to get trapped in crowds near Leicester Square or Oxford Street. For me the best thing about London is the parks and the river walks, but for others it would be the amount of live performances (music gigs or theatre) or maybe even the number of museums. One thing it will never be though is a cheap or quiet place!

I'm lucky enough to have done a lot of travelling over the years ....... and I have to say that the city I probably disliked the most was London. I love the architecture and the history, but not the attitude I pick up from the people there

The City I liked being in most (maybe not the most impressive) was San Francisco

Signs You're from New York
  • NY girl's favourite whine: "I wanna go to myaaami!"
  • You secretly envy cabbies for their driving skill.
  • You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.
  • You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park at 3:30 on the Friday before a long weekend, but can't find New York state on a map.
  • The subway makes sense.
  • The subway should never be called anything prissy, like the Metro.
  • You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multilingual.
  • You think $7.00 to cross a bridge is a fair price.
  • Your door has more than three locks.
  • You go to a hockey game for the fighting. In the stands. To participate.
  • Your favorite movie has DeNiro in it.
  • The most frequently used part of your car is the horn.
  • You consider eye contact an act of overt aggression.
  • You call an 6' x 8' plot of patchy grass a garden.
  • You complain about having to mow it.
