More illegal homes

This time in London.. but at least there is a crackdown now.

Police raids on "sheds with beds"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19443279

The arial clip towards the middle of the video shows the extent of the problem. How was the situation allowed to get so bad?

I agree, shocking.

Shocking that the authorities were either unaware or turned a blind eye and shocking that so many illegal immigrants were living there seemingly unnoticed.

Who's going to tip off the Police? Not the landlords, they are making a packet, and not the illegals, they face deportation.

It's all so obvious and so conspicuous I wouldn't have thought anyone would need to tip oFf the police.
There's the local authorities responsible for collecting council tax, the planning authorities and surely the police themselves would have occasion to check on some of these ppl for every day occurrences.
It's hard to believe they were all so asleep on the job as to allow the situation to develop so far.

Well yes. The council and/or valuation office (ok the name may have changed) is supposed to maintain records of new building work, planning permission etc. Maybe everyone was happy to receive the benefits from almost slave labour in their borough?

More on the crackdown here - http://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/news...beds-in-sheds/
Seems to be very common in west London and Slough.

Slough Borough Council reportedly estimated 2-3,000 households have converted their shed to house migrant workers.

These dodgy landlords must be making so much money that only serious fines of 30k plus and demolition of their sheds will make them take any notice.

On top of that they need the Inland Revenue to get after their hides as well, as I have little doubt that most of their income has been in the form of undeclared cash.

That's one place not to live then:rofl: Should think the house prices are depressed there. Says house prices are up in the UK 1.3% last month.

I am thinking of converting the garage and summer house;)

Re: More illegal homes

so how come ONS can tell us how many people entered the country and how many people left but no one knows what happens inbetween??

isnt it time we put illegals into camps instead of letting them drift around and become targets for what are predominately immigrant landlords ?
The French manage to get away with it.
Although there would appear to be a rise in violent crime in those areas with high illegal populations but I have yet to see those who are responsible for the shedding proble being taken to the courts..
:frown:
wonder what happened to the fluffy bunnies who are normally at the front handing out aid, free housing etc.
