Moraira

I went to Moraira today it's a lovely little place. In my opinion much nicer than Javea. It has everything you need in a small place and so pretty.
Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

I tend to agree with you but my knowledge base is limited to last year in Javea and to which we return in February 2015. However your visit is limited perhaps to the last few days. Maybe just maybe a year round exposure is called for.

We find the coast road from Javea to Calpe a pain and we go to Calpe for in our considered opinion one of the best Dental Surgeons we have ever found be it in the UK France or Spain is in Calpe.

Still I digress. There are those on this site who prefer the northern Spanish Coast. I have just courtesy of BF arrived in Santander and then left. I have not gone east or west but just south. That sort of supports the argument that we all have differing views.

Mine are Moraira and Calpe - been going to both for about 30 years so I've seen massive changes.

According to my brother in law who has lived in Calpe for well over thirty years the demographics of Calpe have change population wise? May be just gossip but the emergence of let us say people from Russia are prominent. He also suggests there are at least twice a week flights from Alicante to Moscow?

He does have some experience he is trying to evict one from a house he has owned and the guy is not paying.

Surely if you went straight south then you didn't view anything? Or have you explored it before?

Only been there a couple of times, I think the sandy beaches are slightly better set there than Javea (the area surrounding the Arenal ain't that great really) but Javea does have the old town and the port areas which seem to have a bit more character. I get the impression Moraira didn't even exist maybe 40 years ago, and I imagine it to be pretty dead in winter (could be wrong though)

Yes the port area and The Old Town in Javea sets it apart. Go to the municipal market in the Old town a beer whilst looking around and then tapas just down the road from the Church

Then with the post office on your right hand side walk down the street and there right at the bottom is the most wonderful vegetable place. So if you want regular shaped peppers and the like go to Tesco but here the owners were at Valencia early morning and the stock was just superb. Equally up the road from the Municipal market on the left hand side is a veg shop which is wonderful.

In Javea we like Piri Piri in the old Port area but will defend the reputation of Masena near the Golf Course it is superb. Then just for a beer the Parador in Javea and just sit and look out at their superb garden.

I would agree 100%, We spend 3-4 months of the year there on and off, in the winter some restaurants shut up shop but lots still stay open, have been to Javea 8-9 times and it's fine, haven't been back for 1 1/2 years, don't see the need, for us El Portet is a little gem and the Benissa coast is lovely, a lot of visitors we talk to assume as you drive along the Moraira to Calpe coast road you leave Moraira and enter Calpe, in fact 4 km of that coast in under Benissa council.

If you are wanting to get there fast I would agree, but if you are a biker you will find it a joy, great views along the coast and bend after bend, the Moraira to Calpe part is very well surfaced, if your a cyclist this road is a good test, from November to end of February you will be rubbing shoulders with some of the worlds best as lots of the top teams spend winter there, I remember a few years ago seeing the Astana team all sitting outside one of the restaurants by the small castle in Moraira, about 40-50 people all in team kit, the bikes and team cars, it was only about 10.30-11.00 and they had already done 100k:eek:

We live in Moraira and still love it as much as we did when we came here 12 years ago. We think it's a lovely place.

We were in the Javea hills between 1985 and 1997, and rarely went to Moraira in those days, but having moved to Benitachell, with Moraira much closer, I agree with Daniel.
